That’s because an over-the-counter pain reliever that’s sold across the country is being recalled due to what the manufacturer is calling “foreign material.”
Teva Canada Ltd. says one lot of Novo-Gesic Forte 500 mg acetaminophen tablets may contain the presence of phenolic resin or epoxy.
“Immediately stop using the affected product,” a release from the Government of Canada said on Thursday. “Return it to the pharmacy where it was purchased for a replacement and for proper disposal. If you are unsure whether your product is recalled, check with your pharmacy.”

‘A durable plastic’
Phenolic resin is a durable plastic made from phenol and formaldehyde. It is safe in its cured form and widely used for lab countertops and work surfaces. It is used to make moulded products, industrial laminates, adhesives, and coatings.

If ingested, phenolic resin can cause physical irritation or injury to the digestive system
The batch in question, bearing the Lot #100083040 and an expiry date of January 31, 2029, was supplied to pharmacies in 1,000-count bottles. The product was dispensed to patients in smaller quantities, according to the drug maker.
There have been no reports of anyone negatively affected by the drug, but officials say you should consult your doctor if you have used the product as of late and have concerns about side effects.
