However, its arrival on digital platforms changed its fortunes. The story follows John Miller (Ritchson), a framed veteran and ex-convict who cuts a path of revenge through Detroit to rescue his partner (Shailene Woodley) from a gangster played by Ben Foster.

The production takes an unconventional structural approach by using almost no spoken dialogue throughout its runtime. Instead, the narrative relies entirely on visual direction, sound design, and Ritchson’s physical performance to carry the plot. Ritchson, who also served as a producer on the project, chose the role to explore a more experimental style of action filmmaking outside of his television commitments.
