One Piece: Eiichiro Oda May Have Finally Revealed When The Story Will Finally End

In the manga world, some stories seem like they will never end. One Piece is certainly one of them! There is an intriguing question that has followed Eiichiro Oda‘s legendary series for years: when will One Piece finally end? The manga has been running since 1997, and it is now deep into the Elbaf Arc.

While Oda has said several times that the story is entering its final stage, the ending still feels far away. With that said, now, two upcoming One Piece movies have given fans another reason to believe that the manga could continue for several more years.

One Piece May Not End Before 2030

The biggest reason behind the latest speculation is the announcement of two new One Piece movies. During the One Piece Day of 2026, which was held on 23rd August, two upcoming One Piece movies were announced. The first is One Piece Film: God Valley, which is set to release in summer 2027.

The movie will cover the famous God Valley Incident, which has already been revealed in the manga. The story involves Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp joining forces to take down the Rocks Pirates and protect the Celestial Dragons and their slaves. Then comes the more mysterious project, One Piece Film: BAAD, which is scheduled for 2029.

Unlike God Valley, fans do not know what BAAD will be about. Meanwhile, 2029 will also mark One Piece anime’s 30-year run. Oda’s involvement also makes the project even more interesting, as he created the movie’s title artwork himself. This has led to a simple question among fans: why announce a major One Piece movie for 2029 if the manga is going to end before then?

That does not mean the manga’s ending has been confirmed for 2030 or later. There has been no official statement from Oda giving us a final year. Still, the 2029 movie gives fans a reason to believe that One Piece could continue well beyond the next few years.

There is also simply too much story left to finish. The Elbaf Arc still has plenty to explore, while major mysteries surrounding Imu, the Void Century, and the final war are still waiting for answers.

Oda’s Old Five-Year Promise Makes Things Even More Interesting

There is another reason fans are being careful with Oda’s latest timeline. Back in 2019, Oda famously said that he wanted to finish One Piece within five years. His editor at the time, Takuma Naito, also discussed the statement in an Oricon interview.

Naito admitted that he wondered whether the series could really finish in five years. However, he also believed that if Oda said five years, Oda would find a way to finish it in that time. Here’s what Naito said to Oricon Japan at the time –

Well, that five-year prediction clearly did not happen. More than five years later, One Piece is still going strong and has reached one of its most important arcs. Oda has also taken more breaks in recent years, giving him more time to work on other One Piece projects and manage his workload.

Because of this, fans started speculating that the manga will not end until 2030 with the 2029 BAAD movie release timeline. It is simply another interesting clue. For now, though, one thing is clear: the Straw Hats still have a long way to go before their final adventure comes to an end.
