Amazon is potentially planning to revive the MGM reality show, The Apprentice reboot, which is in early discussions at the studio. The show was hosted by the now President of the United States, Donald Trump. However, it’s not his name that’s being considered this time around.

Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for ‘The Apprentice’ as a property.

Despite Amazon denying the show is in “active” development, their spokesperson revealed that discussions around the reboot are taking place (via WSJ). However, the studios denied the early discussions. Yet the reboot is being reported and talked about among the audience. The denial suggests the studio might encourage the conversation, but does not want to commit to it.

When the President departed from the show in 2015, he indicated that if the show were to return, he would want Ivanka Trump to host it. However, in early discussions, the hosting baton is allegedly being passed on to his son, Donald Trump Jr. It is an interesting choice for the studios and might be a political calculation if that is their strategy.

For Trump, who rose to fame while hosting the show, this change in choice showcases who the family or the studio wants as their intended audience. People who are active in the political space, especially via social media, will likely associate his son with Trump rather than Ivanka.

There is no trailer released yet, since the show is in early discussions at the studios. However, the studios might refuse to give an early glimpse of the reboot because of its political nature. Unlike the unconfirmed reality show, there are projects Amazon confirmed during CinemaCon this year.
