With Devil Dinosaur officially stomping into Marvel Rivals as Season 8’s newest Vanguard, NetEase is clearly preparing the game for a much more aggressive frontline meta. Between his sheer size, initiation potential, and the newly revealed Primal Punishment Team-Up with The Punisher, the incoming tank looks designed to force engagements in a way few heroes currently can.
That philosophy extends well beyond Devil Dinosaur himself. In the latest Dev Vision, lead combat designer Zhiyong explained that Season 8 is intended to create “far more opportunities to initiate attacks and break through enemy formations” when “Vanguards clash in the frontlines,” and the recently released balance post reflects exactly that direction.
Here’s every buff, nerf, and Team-Up change coming with Marvel Rivals Season 8: Sins of Alchemax.
Every Buff, Nerf, and Hero Change in Marvel Rivals Season 8
The battlefield may look very different in Season 8. | Credits: NetEase GamesUnlike Season 7.5’s headline-grabbing Chain-CC Protection mechanic, Season 8’s changes are more focused on reshaping the overall pace and flow of combat. Across all three roles, NetEase appears to be nudging Marvel Rivals toward heavier frontline brawling, more active repositioning, and slightly less oppressive utility stacking.
Some heroes are getting straightforward buffs, others are losing frustrating aspects of their kits, and a few are being adjusted to better fit the evolving meta heading into the new season.
All Vanguard Changes
TankPool is catching another round of nerfs. | Credits: NetEase GamesThree Vanguards are receiving changes this patch, with the biggest focus being on survivability and sustained pressure during extended frontline fights:
Emma Frost
The White Queen is getting a sizeable durability upgrade across multiple parts of her kit. Nearly every adjustment here improves Emma’s ability to stay active in prolonged engagements, whether through better uptime on Telepathic Pulse, faster repositioning with Mind’s Aegis, or stronger damage reduction during Diamond Form:
- Telepathic Pulse falloff now begins 4s after not hitting an enemy (was 3s).
- Mind’s Aegis reposition cooldown reduced from 3s to 1s.
- Damage Reduction during Diamond Form and Psionic Seduction (Ultimate) increased from 20% to 25%.
Taken together, these changes look to cement Emma Frost as one of Marvel Rivals’ premier frontline brawlers heading into Season 8.
Deadpool (Vanguard)
TankPool’s dominance across both ranked and pro play has finally earned him another round of nerfs. While the character still retains his chaotic identity, NetEase is trimming both his sustain and overall damage output in gun form:
- The Ban Hammer healing while active reduced from 50/s to 25/s.
- Dual Desert Eagles single-shot damage reduced from 36 to 34 (standard) and 42 to 39 (upgraded).
The healing reduction, in particular, should make Vanguard Deadpool far less overwhelming and unkillable while his gun form ultimate is active.
The Thing
Ben Grimm is receiving a simple but meaningful survivability buff:
- Base health increased from 700 to 750.
The devs specifically mentioned wanting The Thing to maintain pressure through sheer force during frontline clashes, and an extra 50 health should help him remain a persistent presence in close-range brawls.
All Duelist Changes
Several Duelists are getting faster, deadlier, or both. | Credits: NetEase GamesSeason 8’s Duelist adjustments largely revolve around improving combat flow and increasing offensive consistency, though a few frustrating mechanics are also being toned down:
Iron Fist
Lin Lie is getting stronger combo potential and better defensive cycling during extended engagements:
- Jeet Kune Do hits now reduce Dragon’s Defense cooldown by 1.2s (up from 1s).
- K’un-Lun Kick first strike damage increased from 35 to 40.
These tweaks should make Iron Fist a tad more threatening during dives while improving his overall combat tempo.
Mister Fantastic
Rather than outright buffing Reed Richards, NetEase is shifting power away from his control tools and into his overall combat effectiveness:
- Stretch Punch damage increased from 65 to 70.
- Flexible Elongation no longer reduces enemy movement speed.
- Flexible Elongation charge time reduced from 8s to 6s.
- Brainiac Bounce (Ultimate) energy cost reduced from 3400 to 3100.
The removal of his movement slow continues Marvel Rivals’ recent trend of toning down frustrating crowd-control effects, but the compensatory buffs should give Mister Fantastic far stronger uptime and flexibility across team fights.
Moon Knight
Khonshu’s chosen is getting a small but useful mobility buff:
- Moonlight Hook cooldown reduced from 15s to 12s.
Even minor mobility improvements can have a sizeable impact on Duelists, after all.
Phoenix
Jean Grey is receiving one of the patch’s most important Duelist adjustments. NetEase is reducing the explosive AoE potential of her combo damage while making her baseline combat output more reliable:
- Cosmic Flames direct hit damage increased from 50 to 55.
- Spark mark explosion damage reduced from 40 to 35.
The devs specifically noted that Phoenix will no longer be able to one-shot 250 HP heroes with a single mark + direct hit from her ultimate.
Spider-Man
Spidey’s ultimate is getting considerably deadlier:
- Spectacular Spin damage per spherical Spell Field increased from 13.6 to 15.
- Total damage over the full duration increased from 408 to 450.
This should make Spider-Man’s ultimate significantly more punishing for grouped enemies caught inside its full duration; strategists beware.
Squirrel Girl
Doreen gets a straightforward cooldown buff:
- Mammal Bond cooldown reduced from 15s to 12s.
NetEase may have described it as “nutty,” but more frequent uptime on one of Squirrel Girl’s key abilities is still a meaningful quality-of-life improvement.
Star-Lord
Peter Quill is getting more sustained firepower:
- Element Guns ammo capacity increased from 40 to 50.
A larger magazine should allow Star-Lord players to maintain pressure for longer before needing to reload during fights.
Wolverine
Logan’s healing factor will now activate more frequently:
- Regenerative Healing Factor trigger cooldown reduced from 105s to 90s.
This gives Wolverine more opportunities to re-engage aggressively throughout a match.
All Strategist Changes
Strategists are losing some free value. | Credits: NetEase GamesFollowing the ultimate economy adjustments introduced in Season 7.5, NetEase appears to be fine-tuning how much passive value Strategists can generate while still preserving their distinct identities.
Invisible Woman
Sue Storm is finally seeing a direct reduction to some of her crowd-control utility:
- Force Physics push distance reduced from 12m to 10m.
- Force Physics damage reduced from 55 to 50.
The nerf aligns with NetEase’s stated goal of slightly toning down the baseline utility of certain Strategists.
Loki
The God of Mischief is leaning further into support utility over damage:
- Illusion Mystical Missile healing ratio increased from 90% to 100%.
- Illusion Mystical Missile damage ratio reduced from 90% to 80%.
- God of Mischief (Ultimate) energy cost increased from 4300 to 4500.
Loki’s illusions should now provide more reliable healing, albeit at the cost of some offensive pressure.
Mantis
One of the patch’s more interesting adjustments belongs to Mantis, who is trading raw damage amplification for stronger repositioning utility:
- Allied Inspiration damage boost reduced from 12% to 8%.
- Allied Inspiration now additionally grants 100 movement speed to allies.
According to the devs, the change is meant to give Mantis a more distinct niche after Ultron gained access to more conventional damage buff utility.
Rocket Raccoon
Rocket is quietly receiving one of the strongest all-around buff packages in the patch:
- Bombard Mode projectile damage increased from 16 to 17.
- Repair Mode charges increased from 8 to 10.
- C.Y.A. (Ultimate) energy cost reduced from 4300 to 4000.
Between stronger damage, more healing resources, and faster ultimates, Rocket Raccoon should have far more overall uptime during team fights.
White Fox
Ami Han’s healing distribution is being adjusted for greater consistency:
- Fox Form Awakening aura healing increased from 25/s to 35/s.
- Burst healing per successful attack reduced from 35 to 25.
- Blessed by the Nine healing during Kumiho Unleashed (Ultimate) increased from 40/s to 60/s.
The changes slightly reduce White Fox’s peak healing spikes while improving her baseline sustain when she doesn’t have targets to hit in melee range.
All Team-Up Ability Changes in Marvel Rivals Season 8
One of Marvel Rivals’ wildest sights yet. | Credits: NetEase GamesSeason 8 is also bringing one adjustment to an existing Team-Up alongside an entirely new partnership built around Devil Dinosaur himself.
Adjusted: Chilling Assault (Luna Snow + Emma Frost)
The icy trio’s operational range is getting expanded:
- Iced Out Diamond spell field radius increased from 9m to 12m.
- Barrier placement distance increased to match the new radius.
This should make the Team-Up significantly easier to utilize effectively during chaotic frontline engagements.
New Team-Up: Primal Punishment (Devil Dinosaur – The Punisher)
Easily one of the most visually absurd Team-Ups that Marvel Rivals has introduced so far, Primal Punishment allows The Punisher to literally ride Devil Dinosaur into battle.
During the Team-Up:
- Devil Dinosaur gains 100 bonus health as the Team-Up Anchor.
- The Punisher can mount Devil Dinosaur after accepting the interaction prompt.
- While mounted, Punisher can only use normal attacks and his short grenade ability.
- Other abilities become temporarily unavailable.
- Punisher gains damage reduction while mounted.
- A percentage of all damage taken and healing received is shared directly with Devil Dinosaur.
