The Boys Season 5 Episode 7 Ending Explained: What Happened to the Radiation Plan?

The Boys Season 5 Episode 7 ended on a tragic note with the death of a core member of the team: Frenchie. The chemist distracted Homelander from Kimiko and Sister Sage by standing inside the radiation booth. Luring the supe inside, he turned on the Uranium and scared Homelander.

When the villain questioned Frenchie about turning Kimiko into a supe with Soldier Boy’s blast powers, the chemist confirmed that the plan worked. Soaked with Uranium, we saw the smile wipe off Homelander’s face as he flew off before they could use that power against him.

The tragedy struck around this moment when Frenchie was also irradiated, leading to radiation sickness followed by his slow demise in the hands of his lover, Kimiko.

The Radiation That Saved and Destroyed the Boys

The radiation in The Boys Season 5 Episode 7 was the immediate plan B following Homelander’s new V1-induced powers. According to the documents procured by the team, Soldier Boy got his power-erasing abilities after a decade of being exposed to radiation treatment by Vough.

In a last-minute attempt to replicate this for the team, Frenchie managed to convince Sister Sage to help him with the calculations needed to speed this up. Their new test subject and hopeful plan was to give Kimiko this ability by exposing her.

The radiation ended up being a double-edged sword for the team. On one hand, Sister Sage and Frenchie claimed they successfully gave Kimiko these powers. On the other hand, Frenchie was doused in Uranium for an extended period during a confrontation with Homelander, which led to the chemist’s demise.

Undoubtedly, this marks the first major death in the team. We got this in the penultimate episode during a very sad scene between Kimiko and a dying Frenchie. The theme of this episode was all about love and its illogical unpredictability. As a direct continuation of this theme, Frenchie sacrificed himself to save Kimiko while she recovered.

Meanwhile, Oh Father did his best to “convert” Homelander fans into Homelander devotees, but the caped supe wanted to give all non-believers the VIP treatment. This led to a frightening tyrant-filled Episode 7.

The Boys S5E7: Homelander’s Desperate New World Order

Homelander was seen basking in his new immortal reign, smiling with his legs up on the White House desk. With a little squeeze, he killed the President after Ashley had revealed his true inner thoughts of Homelander being a psycho. This was the first indication in The Boys Season 5 Episode 7 that Homelander had a zero-tolerance policy towards people who did not immediately accept him as God.

Meanwhile, Oh Father had been executing a marketing campaign to introduce Homelander as God in the New World Order. With a musical number and a “Jesus” handing over his Godhood to the supe, the show’s satire went to unprecedented levels. Multiple words linked to Jesus were censored across the world in this episode on Prime Video.

This is only the start of Homelander eradicating people who don’t believe he is God, using the psychic supes’ abilities to discern the faithful from the rest. The people seen failing the test were immediately eradicated by other supes, despite Oh Father pleading that he could convert them.

A controversial subject by nature, it looks like we will see more devastation for those who don’t believe in the New World Order. If you thought the Vought Camps were brutal, the final episode is going to be filled with guts and gore.
