Eddie Murphy’s 105-Minute Comedy Masterpiece Is Officially a Free Streaming Gem

Eddie Murphy‘s Beverly Hills Cop has found a new home this November. The 1984 action-comedy is now streaming on Tubi, a free platform where viewers can watch movies and shows with ads and no subscription fee.

The film follows Axel Foley, a fast-talking Detroit cop who heads to Beverly Hills to track down his friend’s killer. Out of place among the city’s wealthy residents and strict police officers, Axel breaks every rule to solve the case.

Murphy’s sharp humor and natural charm made it one of the biggest hits of the decade, and the film even earned an Oscar nomination. Its success turned Axel Foley into an iconic character and launched a whole franchise.

It was followed by Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987 and Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994. Both sequels have also landed on Tubi, so fans can now enjoy the original trilogy without paying a cent.

Tubi is not the only way to watch Axel Foley’s adventures for free. Several other platforms carry the movies at no cost. The original Beverly Hills Cop is also available on Kanopy, Hoopla, and Pluto TV. Kanopy and Hoopla only need a library card, while Pluto TV is ad-supported.

Beverly Hills Cop II can be streamed for free on Hoopla and Pluto TV. Meanwhile, Beverly Hills Cop III has fewer choices, as it is available for free on Hoopla. The latest movie, 2024’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, is the only one in the series with no free option now.

For viewers who already pay for streaming services, there are a few more choices. The first two films are also available on AMC+ and Philo. However, the third movie does not currently have any other streaming option.

2024’s Axel F, on the other hand, is a Netflix original, so it can only be streamed on Netflix. Anyone who wants to complete the full franchise will just need a Netflix subscription.

Will Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley Return for a Fifth Movie?

Axel Foley returned in 2024 with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F on Netflix, his first new adventure in 30 years. The film brought back familiar faces like Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, and Bronson Pinchot. Newcomers included Taylour Paige, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Kevin Bacon.

It became one of Netflix’s most-watched movies of the year, so a fifth film seemed possible. But fans may have to wait. Speaking with Extra TV during the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award, Eddie Murphy was asked about another Beverly Hills Cop movie.

His answer was a “No” and made it clear that it will not happen “in the immediate future.” However, Murphy is returning to another famous role. He voices Donkey in Shrek 5, set for release on June 30, 2027. He is also working on a Donkey spin-off movie, which will put the lovable character in the spotlight for the first time.

There is another reason a return feels uncertain. John Ashton, who played Sergeant John Taggart, passed away at the age of 75, making a full reunion impossible. Axel F left Axel’s story open, so the door is not fully closed.
