Batman is getting replaced, and the man taking over is nothing like Bruce Wayne. In Batman: Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest, a paralyzed Bruce can no longer wear the cowl, so someone else is stepping in.
Warner Bros. Animation has already released a trailer and a motion poster for the middle chapter of its R-rated DC trilogy, and the footage shows a city in bad shape. Gotham has rarely looked so vulnerable. Its greatest guardian is off the rooftops, its streets are overrun with masked criminals, and a ruthless mastermind is waiting for anyone brave enough to stand in his way. The trailer ends on the question the whole story hangs on, which is whether Gotham can survive a new kind of Batman.

EntertainmentJean-Paul Valley, better known as Azrael, takes over the mantle after Bane breaks Bruce’s spine and throws him off the roof of GCPD headquarters. However, he is not a gentle replacement. The official synopsis asks whether his more violent methods will be enough to stop Bane. The motion poster, released October 9, shows Azrael going after the man who broke the Bat.
Producer Jim Krieg told ComicBookMovie that the sequel will look at Bruce’s relationship with Shondra, which he said carries “real emotional weight.” The focus on Valley stays close to the comics, where Robin grows more and more worried about Valley’s brutal take on the hero.
Jeff Wamester directs from a script by Jeremy Adams. Anson Mount voices Bruce Wayne, Michael Mando plays Bane, and Pablo Schreiber voices Azrael. Jack Griffo is Tim Drake, Bruce Boxleitner is Commissioner Gordon, and Simon Templeman is Alfred. The trilogy’s finale, KnightsEnd, arrives in 2027.
