Dragon Ball has given Goku and Vegeta two very different paths to divine power. While Goku continues to develop Ultra Instinct through his training, Vegeta has embraced the destructive philosophy of the Gods of Destruction through Ultra Ego.
The two abilities represent opposing approaches to combat, with Ultra Instinct emphasizing autonomous movement and avoiding attacks, while Ultra Ego draws on Vegeta’s fighting spirit and his willingness to endure damage. Neither is simply superior, but Ultra Ego has several qualities that can make it more appealing in the right fight.
Reasons Why Ultra Ego Is Potentially Better Than Ultra Instinct
1. Ultra Ego Rewards Vegeta for Fighting Like a True Saiyan Warrior

Instead of trying to suppress his emotions, Vegeta can embrace his aggression and battle spirit to draw out more of Ultra Ego’s power. During his fight with Granolah, he deliberately endured attacks and continued fighting as his battle spirit grew. That approach fits Vegeta’s personality far more naturally than Ultra Instinct’s traditional emphasis on calmness. For a fighter who thrives on pushing through punishment, Ultra Ego can feel like the more natural power.
2. Destruction Energy Gives Ultra Ego a Deadly Edge in Battle

This gives the form a particularly dangerous offensive edge that Ultra Instinct does not inherently provide. Vegeta can wield destruction energy against opponents and demonstrated its devastating potential during his battle with Granolah. The technique is closely connected to the power of a God of Destruction, which makes Ultra Ego especially dangerous when Vegeta goes on the offensive. That combination of overwhelming strength and destructive techniques gives Vegeta a unique advantage in a confrontation.
3. Ultra Ego Lets Vegeta Grow Stronger as He Embraces Damage

During the Granolah battle, Vegeta continued attacking despite taking increasingly heavy punishment, demonstrating how the form rewards his refusal to back down. However, this does not mean damage is harmless or that Vegeta can absorb unlimited attacks without consequences. His body still has limits, and the accumulated punishment ultimately worked against him. Even so, Ultra Ego gives Vegeta an unusual way to turn the adversity of a fight into additional momentum.
Reasons Why Ultra Instinct Still Outshines Ultra Ego
1. Ultra Instinct Makes Goku Far Better at Avoiding Damage in Any Fight

Its core principle allows his body to react automatically, helping him evade incoming attacks and create openings for counters. That makes Ultra Instinct particularly valuable against opponents who can deal devastating damage. Rather than gambling on how much punishment he can withstand, Goku can focus on staying out of danger altogether. Ultra Ego’s willingness to absorb attacks may look spectacular, but avoiding those attacks is generally the safer approach during a prolonged battle.
2. Ultra Instinct Gives Goku a More Reliable Defensive Edge

The Granolah battle showed that his growing power could not compensate indefinitely for the physical punishment he suffered. Ultra Instinct takes the opposite approach. Goku’s movements are centered around avoiding attacks, allowing him to preserve his body while looking for opportunities to counter. More importantly, Goku’s mastery of Ultra Instinct is still developing, meaning the technique has considerable room for further refinement. That makes its defensive advantages particularly valuable when Goku faces an opponent whose attacks are too dangerous to endure repeatedly.
3. True Ultra Instinct Lets Goku Fight in a Way That Fits Him

During his battle with Gas, he develops his own version of the technique, retaining his emotions rather than trying to keep them completely subdued. The official Dragon Ball site describes this as Goku’s “true Ultra Instinct,” allowing his emotions to fuel his strength while he uses the technique. This gives Goku an approach that better suits his personality and fighting style. Ultra Ego may fit Vegeta exceptionally well, but True Ultra Instinct proves that Goku can adapt Ultra Instinct to himself rather than simply copying an Angel’s approach.
