To ensure the new live-action series meets the high bar set by Disney’s recent fantasy catalog, the studio is assembling an impressive creative lineup behind the camera. Acclaimed filmmaker Angela Robinson, widely celebrated for her directing work on Netflix’s global smash hit Wednesday, as well as How to Get Away with Murder and Professor Marston, has been tapped to direct the pilot and executive produce the series alongside Rick Riordan and his wife, Rebecca Riordan.

Robinson’s knack for blending stylish gothic aesthetics, witty humor, and grounded teen drama directly aligns with the banter-heavy, chaotic energy of the Kane siblings. First published in 2010 with The Red Pyramid, the novel trilogy follows estranged siblings Carter and Sadie as they discover they are descendants of ancient Egyptian magicians. When their father accidentally unleashes the god of evil, Set, the duo must master the mystic arts and tap into the pantheon to save their family and prevent global destruction.

By pivoting from Netflix’s proposed two-hour film format into an episodic structure, Disney+ gives the story room to breathe.
