However, the loss of interest from the fanbase due to microtransaction issues in Mankind Divided led Square Enix to shift its focus away from the beloved franchise and start prioritizing Marvel-themed games. Due to this, many die-hard Deus Ex franchise fans are left disheartened as they can’t see their series relegated to the sidelines.

Fans Discontent With Square Enix About Abandoning Deus Ex

Ever since its initial release in 2000, Deus Ex has always been at the forefront of revolutionizing the role-playing genre with its deep yet intricate narrative coupled with the freedom of choice. The game allowed players to choose their own journey which majorly helped in the replayability of the titles in the series.

Although newer titles like Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, built on this solid foundation and delivered solid performances that resonated with many fans on deeper levels, the series was left on the shelf forever.

Even though issues like microtransactions and irregular narrative pacing in Mankind Divided displeased fans, they were still eagerly waiting for more. But it seems like the developer already lost all their faith and moved on because the last title in the series was released in 2016.

Recently, the studio has pivoted from the cyberpunk role-playing games to Marvel games in an attempt to capitalize on the immense popularity of popular properties. But the die-hard fans of RPG have taken on Reddit and shown that the old beloved series is still doing better than the new games (based on Marvel), pleading for a new title.

It is undeniable that Marvel IP is very huge and with the film’s cinematic universe enjoying success, the gaming industry wants a piece of that pie as well. It’s no surprise that the studio decided to channel some resources into making games in those franchises.

Many feel, that is not a big enough reason to abandon a well-established and popular series, leaving many die-hard fans of the Deus Ex Series frustrated. However, it seems like there is light at the end of the tunnel as rumors are floating around that a new Deus Ex title is in development.

While these rumors are not confirmed, this has created some hope in the fanbase as they always felt that many aspects of the IP’s universe are still left to explore. If given the appropriate time coupled with modern technology, the IP can show that it has all the potential to become one of the best again.
