Some anime grab your attention with action. Some with mystery. And then there are those rare ones that quietly pull you in with emotions you did not expect to feel. The upcoming anime Dandelion belongs in the third category. Coming from Hideaki Sorachi, creator of Gintama, the trailer of the anime already made it clear that it is going to give us some familiar vibes from our all-time favourite comedy anime series.
However, instead of simply focusing on comedy chaos and over-the-top antics, Dandelion seems to slow things down and focus on something more personal – regret, closure and what it really means to let go. And honestly, that shift alone makes it a lot more interesting to watch. The anime is set to be released globally on April 16, 2026, exclusively on Netflix, so before that, let us have a look at some of the important details you should know about the series.

Dandelion Anime Plot Details – What to Expect?
The premise of the series is simple, but the way it is expected to be handled is what makes it special. This story is about a department of the Japanese Angel Federation called the Send-Off Department, which helps lost souls pass on to their afterlife. Sounds like a simple concept, right? Well, if you take a look at the way this team does its job, you will notice that it certainly does not follow any particular rules.
Tetsuo Tanba and his direct superior, Misaki Kurogane, both part of the 21st Division’s Dandelion Clan, approach their jobs very differently from others. Instead of rushing through cases, they slow things down. They take the time to listen, understand and relate to every one of the lost souls they deal with so they can determine how to help them overcome whatever may be holding them back from moving forward in their lives.
By taking this different approach, it changes the entire tone of the story. It is the kind of story that could initially stay chaotic and funny and suddenly become emotional and very personal. Either way, the slower pacing actually works in its favor. There is room for conversations to breathe, which is something a lot of anime do not allow anymore.
Dandelion Anime Trailer Released by Netflix
Here is the official trailer –
As you can see, the trailer starts with something very weird – an elderly spirit running away as if something is chasing him. It is such a weird, almost absurd visual to open with. Normally, in afterlife-type stories, spirits are either lost or confused – but here, this guy is actively trying to get away.
That instantly creates curiosity. Is he scared of being sent off? Then the tone shifts pretty quickly. We get quieter shots. That lines up with the whole idea of the Dandelion Clan taking things slow. It is not about chasing ghosts – it is about sitting with them. Visually, the anime looks pretty clean and grounded. The focus seems to be on expressions and small movements rather than big action cuts.
And yeah, if you notice, it is also giving off that familiar Gintama vibe, right? The trailer gives a solid idea of what to expect. And do not forget it is coming from the OG Hideaki Sorachi, who is well known for delivering such emotional moments after a funny scene – and when that happens, you cannot help but feel sad.

Is Dandelion connected to Gintama?
No, it is not connected story-wise. Even though it comes from Hideaki Sorachi, this is a completely different kind of story with some familiar vibes.
How many episodes will Dandelion have?
It is expected to have 7 episodes, which likely means a concise, focused narrative rather than long arcs.
Will Dandelion have a weekly release or a full drop?
That has not been confirmed yet. Since it is on Netflix, it could go either way.
So the real question is – will Dandelion quietly become one of those unforgettable anime or will it stay a niche watch that only a few truly appreciate? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
