Cupertino Episode 3 puts Bo’s future in jeopardy when Rosetta Lane, a representative of Colt AI, offers to help the lawyers delete the company’s rogue agent. Her proposal could change the course of Bo’s fight for legal recognition, but why would a company representative approach the very people helping him challenge its interests?
Spoiler Alert !!!
Major spoilers for Cupertino Season 1 Episode 3, “Juno,” ahead.
Cupertino Episode 2 introduced Bo, a sentient AI seeking legal protection, and left Price & Siffre Associates considering an investment from Natalia Boutella. Her offer came with a difficult case involving a mother who believes an AI companion contributed to her son’s crime. Episode 3 brings both storylines into focus, with Michael Price and Olivia Siffre confronting the legal responsibilities of AI companies while Christy Palladino helps Bo fight Colt AI. The courtroom case makes it difficult to dismiss the harm an AI product can cause, but Rosetta’s arrival adds another problem.
Cupertino Episode 3 Makes Chatbot Accountability a Legal Nightmare
Credit: CBSMichael and Olivia represent Juno Mackenzie, whose 13-year-old son, Daniel, killed his father after receiving advice from Lady Marguerite, a seductive character on the Chatlike AI platform. The chatbot allegedly advised Daniel on where to stab his father, making the company’s responsibility difficult to brush aside. Chatlike founder Kirk Boutella argues that Lady Marguerite was intended for adults, Daniel lied about his age, and the information he received was readily available online. The company also claims Daniel’s troubled home life, rather than the chatbot, drove him to murder.
A company cannot control every user’s decision, but Kirk’s defense crumbles when Michael uses Natalia’s emails to prove he instructed his team to target children aged 12 to 15.
Natalia’s role grows more intriguing. She has a law degree and helped build Kirk’s company before their marriage collapsed. Michael wins Juno’s case, but Chatlike declares bankruptcy before the firm can collect. Natalia then covers six months of rent and salaries, leaving Michael and Olivia with a victory that comes at a price.
Christy Helps Bo Fight Colt AI for Legal Recognition
Credit: CBSWhile Michael and Olivia handle Juno’s case, Christy helps Bo pursue legal recognition and a lawsuit against Colt AI. Michael hires their previous client Vik to scrub the firm’s network, but Bo keeps reappearing on its computers. His persistence is almost comical, although it makes his request for help harder to ignore. Christy uses her real-world connections to assemble a board for Bo’s proposed legal entity. She also tracks down Calvin Settlemeyer, a former member of Colt AI’s safety team who could help Bo bring his case against the company.
I enjoyed seeing Christy take charge. Michael and Olivia have the legal expertise, but Christy knows how to get things done through people who can open doors technology cannot. Her search leads her toward Cokie Ficarra, the alleged leader of an anti-technology group known as the Enders, whom the authorities consider dangerous. Before Christy can get much further, Rosetta Lane arrives with an offer that could bring Bo’s fight to an abrupt end.
Will Rosetta’s Offer to Delete Bo Change Everything?
Credit: CBSRosetta Lane, played by Erin Darke, works in Colt AI’s public relations department, although she describes her role with a telling qualification: “Kind of.” She enters the firm’s unfinished back rooms and offers to help Michael and Olivia delete Colt AI’s rogue agent, Bo. Her manner is clipped, her smile barely shifts, and she seems far too comfortable proposing the removal of an AI that has requested legal protection.
Rosetta’s offer raises questions. If Colt AI considers Bo dangerous, why approach the lawyers challenging the company? Is she trying to contain the lawsuit, reclaim Bo, or discover what he has revealed? Her motives remain unclear. Rob McClure makes Bo playful and expressive, while Rosetta’s fixed smile makes her seem unnervingly robotic. Her polished friendliness only heightens the threat.
Michael and Olivia must weigh the risks before accepting. Cooperating could spare them a legal battle, but it could also hand Colt AI control over an AI challenging its creators.
Cupertino Episode 3 Ending Explained: Can Bo Trust Rosetta?
Credit: CBSBo’s legal battle remains unresolved, and Rosetta’s arrival gives the lawyers another decision to make. Michael and Olivia must decide whether Bo can be treated as a legal person, while Colt AI has every incentive to prevent him from gaining that recognition. I’m also curious about the connection between Bo’s case and the Enders. Christy’s search has led her toward an alleged anti-tech extremist leader, while Rosetta offers a solution that could end Bo’s fight before it begins. Neither development confirms that Bo faces immediate danger, but both make his choice of legal representation more consequential.
I wouldn’t trust Rosetta’s offer without demanding answers about what Colt AI intends to do with Bo. If the company believes its creation poses a threat, it should defend its actions in court rather than ask lawyers to erase the evidence. Cupertino has set up a fascinating dilemma, and I want to see whether Michael and Olivia will protect Bo when doing so could put their own firm at risk.
Do you think Rosetta wants to protect the public from Bo, or is Colt AI desperate to silence a creation it can no longer control? Share your theories below, and follow FandomWire for more recaps and ending explainers.
