The problem with Classroom of the Elite has never been with the plot or the characters, but with its poor pacing. Even with Season 4, Episode 7 out now, on April 22, I must say it delivered quite a few cool character insights, but I just can’t get bothered by all of these, and I wish to see the Deserted Island Survival Test arc already.
There’s been a little too much buildup, and while focusing on other characters is necessary, it didn’t have to be this stretched. Maybe this is one of the side effects of adapting directly from a light novel. Anyway, in terms of everything this episode showed us, let me express my honest opinion on them and what I think they could mean.

Class 1-B Students Look Like They’re Trying to Play Safe
The episode starts off focusing on Kushida’s kouhai (“junior” in Japanese), Takuya Yagami. Finally, I got to understand his place in Class 1-B. He seems much more like Hirata from Ayanokoji’s class, keeping things together among the students and even across other sections.
Even the edgy Utomiya guy seemed fairly reasonable in the episode, not like when he visited Ayanokoji in the past. What are they plotting, though? Well, Yagami simply wishes to play it safe in the Deserted Island test, since he claims it’s all new to them. But things escalate when Hosen appears on the scene.
Interestingly, Yagami does manage to convince Hosen to play along. Like, can you imagine? Yagami has some real approaching skills. Of course, Hosen had his conditions, which, surprisingly, Yagami also agrees to. Thus, so far, even Yagami appears to be a potential major character this season.
In fact, he had more screen time in the episode. Yagami went up to Ayanokoji to inform him about the 20 million-point prize money for whoever gets him expelled. But you know what? He may just be trying to play it safe because everyone knows Ayanokoji is somewhat of a big shot now.
However, Kushida does seem a little unhappy to have Yagami around!
Amasawa Didn’t Hold Back Even Against Someone Like Hosen
Nanase in a still from Classroom of the Elite Season 4 | Credits: LercheEven Ayanokoji has his eyes on Amasawa already, as she might be the potential White Room student. After today’s episode, I can start to see why. She is not just witty and cunning; even her physical prowess and arrogance are commendable.
She straight-up faces off against Hosen in a verbal exchange, of course. In fact, Nanase was also present there. The moment Amasawa throws a punch at Nanase and, surprisingly, Nanase blocks it effortlessly, that was kind of peak, not gonna lie.
But the craziest part is that Amasawa did manage to convince Hosen to play along with her plan. Good, right? But nope. Hosen would be two-timing if he agreed to Amasawa, since he had already made a pact with Yagami. But Hosen is merciless! After Amasawa leaves, he straight-up admits that verbal promises are not something you are meant to keep. And followed by that iconic laugh of his!
Classroom of the Elite Season 4 Episode 7: Final Verdict
Hosen in a still from Classroom of the Elite Season 4 | Credits: LercheToday’s Classroom of the Elite episode did have some crucial moments in terms of the overall narrative, but individually, it was kind of appalling. As I mentioned, the character interactions could have been summarized in a more compact, organized way, but the episode over-dramatized every dialogue and scene.
For these reasons, I can’t help but rate episode 7 a bit low this time. Still, I will hold on to the hope that future episodes will bring back the absolute thrill that COTE is known for. Ayanokoji’s clash against the other students on the island is expected to be legendary, and there is also the whole mystery about the identity of the White Room student.
Classroom of the Elite Season 4 is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
Classroom of the Elite Season 4 Episode 7 Review: Too Many Characters to Look Out For
Since the episode felt like it's forcing the tension, a 7/10 rating should be good enough.
