Netflix and Shondaland have officially ordered a new Bridgerton spinoff, and this time, the spotlight is on the woman who holds the entire family together. We are getting a story centered on Lady Violet Bridgerton. And true to form, the announcement didn’t come through a boring press release.
It arrived as a fresh edition of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, complete with the gossip columnist’s signature flair. The new limited series will tell the story of a young Violet and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.

Dearest Gentle Reader… A new series chronicling the romance of young Violet and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton is coming! https://t.co/xT4BlIFpdj
— Netflix (@netflix) October 8, 2026For fans, this is the love story they’ve been craving for years. Violet and Edmund’s marriage has always hung over the main series like a beautiful ghost. Every Bridgerton sibling measures their own love life against it.
Now, viewers will finally get to see the romance that started it all, and given how Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story turned out, expectations are already sky-high.
What Do We Know About the New Bridgerton Spinoff?
Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet in Bridgerton | Credits: NetflixFor now, the Bridgerton spinoff doesn’t have an official title. Netflix is calling it the “untitled Bridgerton project” (via Variety). If it follows the previous spinoff’s approach, Lady Violet: A Bridgerton Story seems like a safe bet.
The team behind it is a big reason for excitement. Shonda Rhimes is returning as showrunner, writer, and executive producer alongside Nicholas Nardini, who produced Queen Charlotte. Tom Verica, who directed episodes of Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte, will direct and executive produce, while Betsy Beers also comes aboard as executive producer.
As for the story, fans already know how it ends, and that’s what makes it so emotional. The main series revealed that Edmund died suddenly from a bee sting, leaving Violet a widow while pregnant with their eighth child, Hyacinth. Season 2 even opened with a flashback to that heartbreaking day, through a young Anthony’s eyes.
So the prequel will likely show us the joyful beginning of a love that ended far too soon. Meanwhile, Bridgerton Season 5 is currently filming outside London, with Francesca and Michaela at the center.
Will Connie Jenkins-Greig Return to Play Lady Violet?
Connie Jenkins-Greig as Violet Edmund in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story | Credits: NetflixFor now, we don’t have any updates on the casting yet. Netflix hasn’t confirmed whether Connie Jenkins-Greig, who played a teenage Violet in Queen Charlotte, will return. It is also unconfirmed whether anyone else from Queen Charlotte or Bridgerton will appear.
The 22-year-old actress made a strong impression in a small role. Her Violet was curious, sharp, and clearly on her way to becoming the warm matriarch we know. Bringing her back would give the new series instant continuity, which fans would love.
That said, a romance with Edmund would likely need Violet to be a little older, so Netflix could also decide to cast someone new. Fans also hope to see Ruth Gemmell back in the role, playing the older version of the character.
Queen Charlotte split its story between two timelines, with Golda Rosheuvel’s older Charlotte looking back on her youth. If the new show follows the same format, Gemmell could easily return to frame the story.
In that spinoff, an older Violet even opens up to Lady Danbury about how deeply she still misses Edmund, years after losing him. That longing is the heart of this new show, and whoever plays Violet will have big shoes to fill.
