Tom Holland has created a new record with Spider-Man: Brand New Day as it surpasses a major milestone. The film has earned over $2.5 billion at the box office, making it the first solo superhero film to do so, beating all other superhero actors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Christian Bale. The film is already one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
The fourth solo movie in the MCU saw Destin Daniel Cretton take over the reins as director from Jon Watts and usher in a new era for Holland’s Spider-Man after the events of No Way Home. The film also beat the record held by Avengers: Endgame for the highest domestic opening and overall domestic gross in the USA and Canada.
Tom Holland Beats All MCU and DC Stars With One Record
Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day | Credits: Marvel StudiosNo other solo superhero actor has achieved what Tom Holland just achieved with Brand New Day. The Spider-Man star is already the first of all the Spider-Men to receive a fourth solo movie, and while technically Captain America: Brave New World is still a fourth Captain America movie, Chris Evans did not return and Anthony Mackie took on the reins. So, Holland is the only MCU actor to receive a fourth solo movie.
However, the latest box office milestone crossed by Brand New Day has put him in a league of his own. With its $2.5 billion box office earnings, Holland became the only solo superhero to cross that milestone (via The Numbers). Even RDJ and Chris Evans’ solo movies have not grossed so much. Their box office record, Avengers: Endgame, comes from a team-up film.
Tom Holland has had a brilliant 2026 with both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day earning billions at the box office and earning rave reviews. Plans are already in place for Holland to reprise his role in a fifth movie, and for Destin Daniel Cretton to return as the director, when he finishes his commitments to the upcoming Naruto movie.
The wider numbers favor Holland as well. His four solo Spider-Man films have made roughly $6.4 billion, more than double the lifetime totals of the Iron Man, Captain America, or Thor trilogies, and he has moved past Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Saldana, and more to become the highest-grossing actor of time.
Brand New Day Makes History Ahead of Home Media Release
A still from Spider-Man: Brand New Day | Credits: Marvel StudiosThe film is still in theaters, playing in 1,724 venues domestically, yet the home release is close. Sony has set the premium video on demand debut for Tuesday, October 6, with a purchase price of $29.99 on Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video, and YouTube Movies & TV. Rentals are expected to cost $24.99 for a 48-hour window (via Forbes).
While Brand New Day will make and break new records with its home video release, the film has already broken the record for the highest-ever domestic grosser in the USA and Canada regions. With its $954.4 million haul, it has surpassed even Avengers: Endgame, which is the highest-grossing film of all time (as of October 4, 2026).
Despite its home media and streaming releases coming closer, Brand New Day might still make more box office history, as there are reports of Sony considering a re-release of the film with deleted scenes and bonus footage. Deadline reported that Sony was planning a re-release along the lines of Endgame Encore and would include a filmed scene with Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple.
This would definitely give more edge to the film’s commercial performance. However, it might still take more for it to reach the top spot, as Avengers: Doomsday’s release might change the finish line itself. The film is tracking to earn $3 billion at the box office, currently trailing just behind Avatar and Avengers: Endgame, with its pre-sales already indicating an incredible opening weekend. Brand New Day might not reach as much with its re-release.
