A 24-year-old Barrie man is facing charges following a four-month child exploitation investigation by police.

Barrie Police said the probe began after its Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit received a report from the National Centre of Missing and Exploited Children concerning the upload of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Police said ICE officers executed a search warrant in June at a residence in the east end of Barrie. During the search, the accused was not found.

However, investigators obtained a second search warrant on July 30 for an address in the city’s west end, and the accused was located.

Police said officers seized an electronic mobile device for forensic analysis, which led to the discovery of images and videos of child sexual abuse and exploitation.

The man was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Elderly woman dies after collision in Scarborough

An elderly woman died Friday night following a morning collision with a motorist in Scarborough.

Toronto Police said officers responded at approximately 6:10 a.m. to a call for a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian in the Bridletowne Circle and Finch Ave. E. area.

It was reported to police that a 49-year-old woman was driving a white Toyota RAV4 from southbound Bridletowne Circle to westbound Finch Ave. E. At the same time, an 82-year-old pedestrian was crossing the road from the north-west corner of the intersection in an undetermined direction.

The vehicle then struck and ran over the pedestrian, cops said. The pedestrian was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Saturday morning, police said the pedestrian died of her injuries Friday evening.

Police said the incident is now classified as a fatal collision and the investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services.

Vehicle crash in North York kills two

Two people are dead after a vehicle crashed into a traffic light pole in North York early Saturday.

Toronto Police said in a social media update that reports were called in at approximately 4:40 a.m. for a single vehicle collision at Finch Ave. W. and Romfield Lane, one block west of Keele St.

According to police, the vehicle struck a traffic light pole and knocked it completely down, adding the vehicle’s airbags were deployed.

Shortly after police officers and emergency services arrived at the scene, the two males were pronounced dead.

The intersection was closed for the investigation and cops asked the public to avoid the area.
