Jolie addressed her brother in her acceptance speech, sharing that she was “so in love” with him (via Ladbible). However, fans did not expect to see her kissing Haven on the lips during the afterparty. The kiss stirred up rumors of an incestuous relationship. Her Oscar win was almost caught up in such disgusting discussions about her personal life.
Later that year, the Mr. & Mrs. Smith actress explained the situation to Entertainment Weekly. She shared that the kiss was purely out of “brotherly love”, further adding that her parents “really loved that moment, and that’s what will always matter.”
While Jolie was unapologetic about the kiss, the moment was forever etched in the minds of fans and media in a negative way. When Haven appeared for an interview with Daily Mail in 2007, he addressed the public kiss and clarified that it was not anything s*xual.
Haven shared that it was a simple and lovely moment between the siblings that was blown out of proportion by the media. He shared with Daily Mail:
I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely. She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas. I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing.
Haven was an actor who began his career in minor acting roles in his sister’s films like Gia, Hell’s Kitchen, and Original Sin. He retired from acting in 2013. He and Jolie were estranged from their father Jon Voight for several years and reconciled only in the wake of the death of their mother Marcheline Bertrand.

Haven is reportedly a great help with the kids for Jolie after her divorce from Brad Pitt. Haven shared that he was happy to be there for his nephews and nieces during their formative years.
Haven shared that he felt protective over his sister’s family and wanted to be there for them like his mother. He shared with the 90who10 podcast:
That’s where it all started, it started with the protection of her and then of her children, my nieces and nephews. There are those are massively formative years, they’re becoming young adults in their early 20s. That’s so crazy thinking that, but yeah, I think it’s just very natural [to feel protective] and I just want to be there. Very much like my mom. Anytime I’m blessed to be in their presence, I want to be in their presence.
James Haven even hinted at working together on a project with his sister in the future, sharing that they “have very mutual interests.” Haven earlier directed his father Jon Voight in the short film Court of Conscience.
