Crimson Desert’s 1.04 update introduced an unexpected addition to the game’s pet system: new bird pets. With this update, we can have more pets aside from just cats and dogs, as Pearl Abyss added over 30 collectible avian companions that we can tame and keep.
Crimson Desert Update 1.04 is HUGE, adding difficulty settings and more.
• Difficulty options added
• New pets – birds, 5 new cats, and more
• Added new Storage Chests that allow materials and ingredients to be used directly from storage
• New weapons, quests, and armor for… pic.twitter.com/jnhwvyZAwK
And just like the other pets, the birds don’t just follow you around for show. They also help gather loot while you explore the world. But what makes bird pets especially interesting is how different the taming system is. Instead of approaching and feeding them for trust, you’ll be using a special item to attract them, then feed them and build trust.
Here’s a complete breakdown of all the new bird pets in Crimson Desert and how you can get them.

The bird pet roster in Crimson Desert is surprisingly large. If you’re looking to get one, there are a ton of options in a wide range of species that you’ll be able to find all around the game.
All birds function similarly in gameplay, and all have the primary auto-looting trait. So the main thing that will affect your decision is their design, rarity, and how easy or hard they are to tame.
Common Birds
These are the easiest birds to find, typically appearing in forests, villages, and open plains:
- Sparrow
- Blue Jay
- Crow
- Cuckoo
- Collared Dove
- Meadow Bunting
- Long-Tailed Tit
- Pigeon (Grey and White variants)
- Parrot and Ringneck Parrot
They usually prefer grains, seeds, or fruits, making them ideal starter companions for new players experimenting with the bird system.
Birds of Prey
Found near cliffs, mountains, and high-altitude areas, these birds are larger and more striking:
- Eagle
- Hawk
- Steppe Eagle
- Gyrfalcon
- Eastern Sparrowhawk
- Red-Footed Falcon
- Condor
These species typically require meat-based food, such as lean, tough, or fine meat, to build trust quickly.
Water Birds
As expected, these birds spawn near rivers, lakes, and coastal areas:
- Seagull
- Goose
- Smew
- Common Tern
- Kentish Plover
- Yellow-Billed Loon
They are best attracted using fish like perch, bass, or smaller aquatic catches.
Exotic Parrots
These colorful birds are rarer and usually appear in later regions:
- Eclectus Parrot
- Sun Conure
- Grey Parrot
- Little Blue Macaw
- Hyacinth Macaw
- Citron-Crested Cockatoo
They prefer fruits such as berries, grapes, and tropical produce, making them slightly more resource-intensive to tame.
Desert and Special Birds
Exclusive to specific regions like the Crimson Desert:
- Desert Goose
- Sand Grouse
These birds often require region-specific food and only appear in arid zones.
Night Bird
- Owl
The owl is a unique case, spawning only at night in specific cliffside locations. If you want to add it to your collection, make sure you’re looking for it at the right time.
I was exploring the northern parts of the Crimson Desert wastes and encountered the ♦️Legendary Phoenix♦️!!
If you keep your eyes on the sky, you'll spot the phoenix flying with its flock of baby birds and yes, it ACTUALLY resurrects from death!

Legendary Bird
- Phoenix
The Phoenix is a special one, because it is the only legendary bird pet. Instead of using the standard taming method, you’ll have to hunt it in the Crimson Desert region near Trader’s Expanse. After defeating it, you’ll obtain a Phoenix Feather, which can be crafted into a sigil that unlocks the Phoenix as a pet.
How to Tame Bird Pets in Crimson Desert
You need a certain item to tame them. | Image Credit: Pearl Abyss/@JasonDunna/YouTubeTo tame the new bird pets in Crimson Desert, you’ll need a special item called the Sotdae of Bond, which is basically a feeding perch item introduced in the 1.04 update. Without it, you won’t be able to interact with bird pets at all.
🧵4-
How to tame most birds
•Take out the Sotdae of Bond. It’ll probably be in
your chest at the camp unless you already took it out.
•Set it anywhere and then fill it with different types of foods. (try different foods of a specific type)

Step 1: Unlock the Sotdae of Bond
To obtain the Sotdae, you need to progress through the Pororin Village questline in the Hernand region. This involves gaining access to the village, completing a relic-related objective, and finishing part of the Trembling Woods quest.
If you’ve already done this before the update, the item should be waiting in your camp storage. Otherwise, it can be recovered from Carl at the Greymane camp for a small fee.

Patch v1.04 came out recently for Crimson Desert.
It added:

Step 2: Place and Prepare the Feeder
Once equipped, place the Sotdae on open ground. You’ll know it’s a valid spot when placement indicators confirm it. After placing it, add food to the feeder. There are a ton of options from grains, fruits, fish, or meat, depending on the bird you want to tame.
Step 3: Attract and Feed Birds
After setting the feeder, step back and wait. Birds will eventually land and begin eating. The type of bird that appears depends on both your location and the food you’ve placed. For example:
- Forests attract small birds with grains and fruits
- Mountains attract raptors with meat
- Coastlines attract water birds with fish
Step 4: Build Trust Quickly
Each bird has a Trust meter that fills as it eats. Using its preferred food significantly speeds up this process, often allowing you to fully tame a bird in a single session. Unlike other pets, you don’t need to wait for a day to come back for the trust to reset. All you need is enough of the right food.
Step 5: Claim Your Bird
Once the Trust meter reaches maximum, interact with the bird and select the option to take it in. It will then be added to your pet roster, ready to accompany you and collect loot during your adventures.
Special Case: Phoenix Taming
The Phoenix does not use the Sotdae system. Instead:
- Locate it flying in the Crimson Desert
- Take it down using ranged attacks
- Collect the Phoenix Feather
- Craft a sigil through a witch to unlock it as a pet
The new bird pets in Crimson Desert are a welcome addition to the game. Especially since they do more than just look good on your shoulder. If you ever wanted to add more variety to your exploration, make sure to get one.
