Will Man on Fire Return for Season 2? Everything We Know So Far 

John Creasy returned in the form of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II on Netflix in the seven-episode series Man on Fire. Based on A.J. Quinnell’s 1980 novel of the same name, the series adds a new spin on the fan-favorite hero. 

Released on Thursday, April 30, 2026, there have been questions about whether the former CIA operative will return for a second season. Here’s all we know about John Creasy’s Netflix future. 

Netflix Has Not Yet Renewed Man on Fire for Season 2

Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet renewed Man on Fire for a second season. This is a standard practice for the streaming giant, which typically monitors viewership data and the completion date. Usually, it takes about a month or more for Netflix to make a decision. 

The show is based on the first two books of Quinnell’s novel series: Man on Fire (1980) and its follow-up, The Perfect Kill (1992) (via The Hollywood Reporter). There are three more books remaining in the Creasy saga: The Blue Ring (1993), Black Horn (1994), and Message From Hell (1996). This provides a clear roadmap for at least three or four more seasons.

The new series also attempts to rebuild Creasy from what we saw over the course of seven action-packed episodes. There is more to him than just being an action hero battling PTSD, and the first season perfectly lays the groundwork for the story to build upon that.

While Netflix has remained mum till now over the possibility of a second season, as have the cast and crew, if the series performs well, there is a real chance that we might get a second season soon. 

How Man on Fire Season 1 Sets Up Season 2

Man on Fire started on a high note as we are introduced to the former special forces agent struggling with past demons and looking forward to a fresh start. While his friend, Rayburn, helps him get a new start, over the course of seven episodes, we see Creasy undergo a drastic change. 

He is no longer the man who shuts people out but is learning and trying to be better. However, that does not mean he doesn’t have any more healing and learning to do. The same is for Poe, who is trying to get better as well after losing her family.

The finale of the series sees Creasy getting a call from CIA Director Moncrief, who informs him of a new mission. While the details of the mission were not revealed, it is hinted that it is linked to Creasy’s past, which means he will have to confront his past if he decides to take it on.

When Moncrief asks him if he is ready, our hero informs him to just send it over. Although he hasn’t committed, if you know John Creasy, that likely means he is ready for another high-stakes mission, even if that means getting in touch with his dark past again. 

The mission is likely linked to what happened in Mexico City in the past, which left him with PTSD after his entire team was killed at the Vallejo Industrial Zone. It seems like Director Moncrief knows who was responsible for the act, which makes it likely that Creasy will readily agree to avenge his fallen brothers, if there is to be a second season. 

Moreover, a potential Season 2 could adapt the rest of Quinnell’s novels, featuring a multi-arc to build tension before a third or fourth season wraps up the tale. 

If Netflix follows its usual production cycle for high-budget action thrillers like Man on Fire, we can expect an announcement by June 2026.
