After Disney acquired the rights to X-Men in 2019, it has become a part of the MCU. With the recent success of Deadpool & Wolverine, fans are stoked about X-Men being included in more Marvel movies. So, which X-Men character is Cynthia Erivo interested in playing? Let’s find out.

Why Cynthia Erivo is a perfect fit for Storm

Cynthia Erivo’s interest in playing Storm is not surprising, given her impressive track record of tackling diverse and challenging roles especially after her performance in Wicked as Elphaba. The actress will continue playing Elphaba in the upcoming sequel, Wicked 2.

Over the years, she has showcased a range of emotions and adaptability, proving her ability to embody complex characters. She believes Storm is a grand character whose inner turmoil hasn’t been explored yet. This shows her understanding of the character and what needs to be portrayed on screen.

Marvel Studios did a great job with X-Men ‘97 and received a lot of positive feedback on the continuation of the animated series. Although X-Men ’97 is not canon to the MCU, it seems to exist as an alternate reality in the multiverse. A glimpse of Storm’s emotional turmoil can be seen in Episode 6 of the animated series.

To fully showcase Storm’s power and mental state, the person playing the character needs to be able to resonate with it. Storm was previously played by the exceptionally talented actresses Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp (younger version in X-Men: Apocalypse). To warrant a change, it would require Marvel to not only portray Storm in an alternate reality but also find someone just as talented if not more and Cynthia Erivo is that someone.

The possibility of Cynthia Erivo taking on the role of Storm has sparked a wave of excitement among Marvel fans and justifiably so as Storm is one of the strongest mutants on Earth. Although each fan has their own opinion on who would be the best Storm, many have voiced support for Erivo on the social media platform X. Some fans even started to create fan art featuring Erivo as Ororo Munroe aka Storm.

For the MCU, casting Erivo as Storm could also mark a turning point for the X-Men franchise. With the X-Men’s integration into the MCU, fans are eager to see how these worlds will intersect. A fresh take on Storm, led by a talented and passionate actor, could plunge the franchise to greater heights. Furthermore, Erivo’s involvement could ensure that Storm’s legacy continues to shine brightly.
