Actor Asa Butterfield may be wildly popular for his role as Otis in Netflix’s Sex Education, but you can expect almost nothing similar to that role in Unchosen, where he plays a manipulative, controlling man named Adam.

Talking to The Times, the star revealed that his character was meant to be downright twisted and corrupt, shaped by the community he was part of, which acted more like a cult. And this meant going above and beyond to show how control can take an ugly turn, brought to life during the shoot where he and co-star Molly Windsor performed a scene where Adam r*pes Windsor’s character, Rosie.

On top of that, he claimed that to bring the psychologically scarring vibe of the series to life, he studied real-life religious sects and cults and watched documentaries to understand their psychology and structure. Thus, fans can expect a truly dark and horrifying narrative from Unchosen.
