Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom is a direct continuation of the anime, which is one of the best Isekai anime of all time. The movie takes place immediately following the conclusion of the fourth season, and the story adapts volumes 12 and 13 of the original light novel series authored by Kugane Maruyama.

The story focuses on the Roble Holy Kingdom, a human nation separated from neighboring territories by a massive wall. This huge wall is designed to repel the various demi-human tribes living in the adjacent Abelion Hills. Problems start occurring when the Demon Emperor, Jaldabaoth, commands an alliance of demi-human forces and launches an assault on the Holy Kingdom.

The Holy Kingdom believes in strict religious doctrines that categorize all undead creatures, just like our protagonist Ainz, as mortal enemies. However, the necessity of survival forces them to request aid from Ainz Ooal Gown. Ainz accepts the request from the Holy Kingdom and sends his own forces to combat Jaldabaoth.
