Veerman "had a few options" in England and Türkiye prior to Dortmund move

The Netherlands midfielder could have easily ended up in the Premier League or Turkish Süper Lig until Dortmund came calling.

Prior to his transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Borussia Dortmund, Joey Veerman came close to joining a clubs in England and Türkiye.

"I had a few options beforehand, the Premier League and the Turkish league," the 27-year-old revealed in an interview with RTL and Sky.

Instead, the Netherlands international was patient and explained why the move to BVB was such a good fit for him:

“I was waiting for a big club that also plays in the Champions League, because I played in the Champions League for three years at PSV.

“So Dortmund was a perfect match for me,” Veerman said, who arrived in Westphalia via a release clause of around €22million.

When asked about his favorite position to play in midfield, Veerman explained how he discovered what suited him best in Eindhoven.

“In Holland, we played differently. We played with three midfielders, a holding midfielder, a central midfielder, and a number 10.

"I always played on the left, but my former coach, Peter Bosz, said that my best position was the holding midfielder position.

“I've also arrived here as a holding midfielder. The position I played against Villarreal is a good position for me,” he exclaimed.

After a fine performance in BVB's midweek win over Villarreal, Veerman may retain his spot in midfield today against SC Paderborn (15:30 CET).
