A Toronto man who vanished after the body of his intimate partner was found inside a residence has been arrested and charged with her murder after he returned to Canada more than seven months on the run.

Toronto Police said officers responded to a call on Dec. 19, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., for a missing person in the Strachan Ave. and Wellington St. W. area.
It is alleged that police began an investigation into the missing woman’s whereabouts. The next day, at approximately 6:30 a.m., cops located the body of the missing woman inside a residence.
Investigators determined her death as a homicide, and police confirmed at the time that the victim and suspect were a couple.
On Dec. 22, police identified the victim as 30-year-old Himanshi Khurana of Toronto. She was the city’s 40th homicide of 2025.
‘Deeply saddened and shocked’
“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the murder of Ms. Himanshi Khurana, a young Indian national, in Toronto,” India’s Toronto-based Consulate General wrote in a statement on social media on Dec. 23.

“We extend our deepest condolences to her bereaved family during this moment of profound grief. The Consulate has been in close touch with the matter over the past few days, and all possible assistance is being extended to the family in close coordination with local authorities.”

Suspect was located and arrested
On Saturday, police announced the suspect returned to Canada and was located and arrested Friday after members of the Fugitive Squad and Homicide and Missing Persons Unit worked with national and international policing partners to facilitate the accused’s return to Canada.
Abdul Ghafoori, 32, has been charged with first-degree murder.
He was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Saturday morning.
