5 Emberpup

Emberpup is the simplest pick to act on, since it roams Nimbus Fields, among the earliest areas you can freely explore. Its Hustle skill converts stamina into extra running speed, which shrinks the long stretches between catches.

Fire also doubles as a puzzle key, as it clears vine-covered caves and chests and melts ice blocks that would otherwise force a detour. In battle, it deals bonus damage to targets weak to flames. What’s even better is the Aniimo’s family tree, with Flameruff coming in next, followed by a choice between damage-focused Scorchhowl and Break-focused Inferlupa, so your effort carries forward.

4 Stellarys

Looking for a strong start in Aniimo? Stellarys can help you for sure. Stellarys begins life as Celestis, a Dark-type flier that spawns around Nimbus Fields and the Forest of Falling Stars. Celestis is useful long before it evolves, thanks to its knack for scaling walls and gliding over gaps.

Moreover, the finished form is where the real damage shows up, with a 125 Attack stat and homing stars that stack bonus damage with every hit, along with a shadow clone that helps you slip away from danger.

To unlock it, you will need to beat Alpha Stellarys, then evolve a level 18 Celestis using one Night Stone.

3 Flutternym

Long fights demand a healer, and Flutternym is easy to run. You can catch this Wind-type around Nimbus Fields at low levels. Even from the bench, it lingers nearby in spirit form, recovering a small chunk of HP whenever your lead creature fires off a skill. Swap it in, and Purifying Dance clears debuffs while speeding up EP recovery, whereas Healing Dance lays down a restorative patch of ground for allies.

Reach level 21 and spend a Gust Stone, and it becomes Gracewing, which carries the bench healing forward and adds Help! Gracewing!, an instant heal for the whole squad.

2 Budclaw

Drain an enemy’s Break gauge and a grueling boss fight should turn into a short one, since the target takes heavy damage and becomes far easier to capture. Budclaw, a crab-like Earth/Grass Aniimo, is a friendly way into that role.

Landing hits builds Momentum, and at max stacks its Break efficiency climbs by 30 percent for 20 seconds. Its Tunnel skill lets it burrow underground, immune to ranged attacks, and doubles as an exploration tool. You’ll find it around Nimbus Fields and elsewhere in the Breezy Plains. It later evolves into Shrubclaw or Geoclaw, and neither loses Tunnel along the way.

1 Nimbi

Meet Nimbi, a woolly Wind-type that floats over the grasslands of Nimbus Fields in small flocks and handles support duty. It will not top any damage chart, but its Cloud Shield absorbs hits while trimming stamina drain across the team, and its flight and glide skills make traversal smoother.

At level 21, it branches. Turbo keeps the Wind element, and its Nimbi Burst buffs allies’ damage and Break efficiency, while Dreaple switches to the Dark element and leans on sleep effects to control fights. Keep in mind that Turbo is gated behind a fight with Alpha Turbo.
