Reacher Officially Loses Prime Video’s Top Spot to His Own Protégé’s 8-Episode Thriller

As Alan Ritchson’s Reacher season 4 wrapped up earlier this month, fans are already happy about the next show in the franchise, Neagley. Following the life of Reacher’s protégé, Frances Neagley, the show follows her as she seeks the truth about her friend’s mysterious passing. 

As the flagship show held the Prime Video charts for weeks, the new show has dethroned it. According to FlixPatrol, Neagley is now the number one most-streamed show on Prime Video this month, beating Reacher’s chokehold over the position. It is one of the few times that a spinoff has outperformed the original.

Neagley Wins Over Fans and Critics Alike as It Dethrones Reacher

While it is hard for sequels and spinoffs to match up to the original, sometimes an IP comes along that does the impossible. Neagley is setting out to be that show that has begun its path to surpass Reacher. The spinoff show dropped all eight episodes on September 16, 2026, the same day that Reacher season 4 ended.

While Reacher season 4 proved itself as one of the best seasons of the show, Neagley has already won over fans and critics alike with its debut run. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the show has received a 92% on the Tomatometer and a 85% on the Popcornmeter, thus impressing both fans and critics. This is a huge feat for a new show.

The show follows Frances Neagley, the former military protégé of Jack Reacher and a member of the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit, who has since built a life as a private investigator in Chicago. Neagley learns that a close friend from her past has mysteriously died, sending her on a personal and dangerous investigation that draws on everything she learned serving alongside Reacher.

One of the other impressive things about Neagley is that it is not a novel adaptation like Reacher. Lee Child has not written books on Neagley yet, and creator Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton developed the character on their own.

Viewers have praised Maria Sten’s performance for finally giving one of the franchise’s most beloved supporting characters room to lead her own story. Critics have highlighted the show’s ability to retain the tone and momentum of Reacher without leaning on Alan Ritchson to carry every scene.

What Does the Future Look Like for Reacher and Neagley?

Alan Ritchson’s Reacher has already been renewed for season 5, and judging by its pace and success, it could go on for longer. There is no dearth of material, as author Lee Child has written several books with the character as the lead. With season 4 being one of its best-rated seasons, it seems like the sky is the limit for the show.

When it comes to Neagley, it might be too early to say. The spinoff show has not yet been confirmed for a second season, but the way it is going, there might just be news on that soon. Creator Nicholas Wootton has already discussed ideas for a potential second season in interviews, noting that a significant plot twist introduced in season one would be explored further if the show continues (via Collider). The cast has also shown enthusiasm, and the show has the numbers to warrant another season.

Beyond the show, Lee Child will reportedly work on a new book series based on Neagley, making it a surprise reverse adaptation situation. Titled Zero Margin, the novel is written by Child and Yasmin Angoe. It is scheduled for release in March 2027. The franchise seems to have a lot of plans in the future.
