The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting its biggest update yet with the Remastered version. The free update comes out tomorrow, September 29, 2026. A remaster typically improves resolution and frame rates, but CD Projekt Red has reworked several parts of the game. This includes new accessibility, customization, combat, and exploration features.
Are your swords oiled up and sharpened? Potions brewed? Roach saddled? It’s time to face Eredin and his entourage once again!

The update is free for existing owners and includes both expansions and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. If you haven’t kept up with the latest on this topic, here are 10 of the best new features in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered.
10 Better Photo Mode

With the game’s visual upgrades also improving environments and lighting, photo mode gives players considerably more control over capturing memorable scenes across the Continent.
9 Cross-Platform Mod Support
Image Credit: CD Projekt RedMod support is being expanded through Mod.io integration, allowing players on supported platforms to access custom content. Mods can introduce things such as new quests, equipment, weapons, and gameplay adjustments.
The feature is particularly notable because mod support is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2, bringing custom content to a platform that traditionally has had fewer opportunities for The Witcher 3 mods.
8 New Accessibility and Quality-of-Life Features
Image Credit: CD Projekt RedThe Remastered version introduces several features aimed at making the game more accessible and easier to navigate. The interface has been refreshed, menus have been improved, and quest and tutorial information has been modernized.
A new feature called Bard’s Ballad is specifically designed to accommodate players experiencing cognitive fatigue or attention-related difficulties. It can alter selected gameplay elements, including introducing automatic self-healing.
The game also receives a reworked Witcher Senses system, with players needing to focus on relevant environmental clues rather than simply highlighting everything.
7 Nintendo Switch 2 Support and Features
Image Credit: CD Projekt RedThe Switch 2 version receives several platform-specific additions beyond the general remaster improvements. Motion controls allow players to perform actions such as casting Signs, firing the crossbow, throwing bombs, using potions, and controlling Roach.
Gyro aiming provides another option for precision, while mouse controls can be used for navigating menus and the map. The touchscreen also supports menu and map navigation, as well as playing Gwent.
6 Inventory Weight Limit Toggle
Image Credit: CD Projekt RedOne of the most notable quality-of-life additions is the option to disable the inventory weight limit. Players who prefer the traditional system can continue using it, while those who don’t want to repeatedly manage their inventory can turn the restriction off.
This is particularly useful for players who like collecting weapons, armor, crafting materials, and other items throughout their adventures.
5 Revamped Movement and Roach Handling
Image Credit: CD Projekt RedMovement has been given a significant overhaul, with new animations intended to make Geralt’s traversal feel smoother. Roach has also received revamped handling and animations.
The changes extend to exploration and traversal, making movement in the world feel more responsive. This is particularly notable because Roach’s sometimes awkward movement was one of the more recognizable quirks of the original game.
4 Transmog for Weapons and Armor
Image Credit: CD Projekt RedThe new transmogrification system lets players change the appearance of their equipment without changing its statistics. This separates Geralt’s fashion choices from the gear he actually needs for combat.
Players can therefore maintain a preferred armor or weapon appearance while still benefiting from stronger equipment, giving considerably more freedom when customizing Geralt.
3 Overhauled Combat and New Finishers
Image Credit: CD Projekt RedCombat has received several changes designed to make encounters feel more dynamic. Geralt has new animations and brutal finishing moves, while an adaptive camera changes the perspective during combat.
All five Witcher Signs—Aard, Igni, Yrden, Quen, and Axii—also receive refreshed visual effects. Enemy behavior has been improved as well, meaning familiar opponents such as wolves and drowners can react differently during encounters.
2 Reimagined Skill Tree
Image Credit: CD Projekt RedThe original skill system has been rebuilt to provide more flexibility when developing Geralt. The revamped tree introduces new abilities and changes how progression works, giving players more freedom to shape their preferred playstyle.
This should also make experimenting with different builds more straightforward for both newcomers and returning players.
1 Major Visual and Lighting Improvements
Image Credit: CD Projekt RedThe Continent has received a substantial visual overhaul. Environment, NPC, and monster textures have been upgraded, while foliage has been significantly improved. Lighting and rendering have also been reworked to create more detailed environments and convincing shadows.
PC players get additional graphical upgrades, including path tracing, ray reconstruction, ray-traced hair, and support for modern technologies such as DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, and XeSS 2.0.
Altogether, there are even more changes that make this the best version of the game yet. Will you be playing it when it comes out? Let us know in the comments!
