Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland In Spider-Man

SUMMARY

  • Tobey Maguire had the most iconic Spider-Man suit out of the three iterations of the character that have existed in the previous two decades.
  • However, the suit is nowhere as expensive as Tom Holland's suit in the MCU, which has built a fanbase of its own.
  • Spider-Man 4 seems to be coming along at a steady pace, with Holland excited about what Marvel is doing behind the scenes.

Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man is credited with being one of the most iconic versions of the character, being influential in popularizing superhero cinema, and proving that the genre had the potential to make the kind of money that it is making right now.

Maguire’s Spider-suit remains one of the most iconic superhero suits to come out of Hollywood, but despite the fame and sentiments that are associated with it, it is nowhere close to being as costly as the suit that the latest iteration of the character has been wearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man had a distinct advantage over Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire: the character was playing around in a universe that had other heroes and villains as well. Being introduced in Captain America; Civil War, the character simply had a lot more investment than his previous versions. This included the money that went into making the franchise, of which the suit as a part as well.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man suit in Far From Home, along with a slew of other costumes, reportedly cost Marvel Studios approximately $130,000. This price tag is nowhere close to what Sony shelled out for either Spider-Man suit, which was relatively cheaper, all things considered. However, this price point seemed more than worth it, given that Peter’s main suit from the film would become his default until the end of the trilogy.

Given the last time Spider-Man appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, any further narrative development for the character will have the burden of following up one of Spider-Man’s best cinematic outings. As reported by Variety, Tom Holland at least has had a look at a draft and believes that there is something in the story that can definitely be worked with.

However, No Way Home, with Maguire and Garfield reprising their roles from their own franchises, would be a tough act to follow, especially given the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given that there will be a focus on the multiverse, which is something a fourth Spider-Man film is not going to be able to focus on, there might be some incoherence between what the film delivers and what the MCU manages to do at large. However, the franchise is not a stranger to self-contained films that are divorced from the larger narrative, which might be the case for the fourth Spider-Man film after all.
