Officials warn against "jumping to conclusions" after social media post shows alleged attacker saying, "Allah ordered me to do it"

Three women have been injured, one reportedly pregnant, in a Paris knife attack allegedly motivated by Islamic terrorism.

A man is now in custody after he stabbed three women, 19, 24, and 36, with kitchen knives in Paris’ Porte de Clichy area, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez and Paris police said.

Two are seriously wounded and in critical condition. One was stabbed in the lower back, the other in the abdomen. Geoffroy Boulard, mayor of the 17th district where the stabbings took place, said on X that one of the three women was pregnant.

Officials say the attacker was stopped by an off-duty police officer.

“Allah ordered me to do it”

Parisian authorities are still determining whether or not to treat the attack as terrorism, but a post on X shows the alleged attacker being pinned to the ground, saying “It’s Allah who ordered me to do it,” with the knives he allegedly used lying on the ground nearby.

Nunez says the alleged attacker was making “incoherent statements” and warned the public against jumping to conclusions.

“We must obviously remain very cautious regarding the motives behind this extremely violent act,” he told reporters. “I firmly condemn this act, and we are told that the individual is making incoherent statements.”

Berlin Pride attack

The knife attack comes hot on the heels of another attack in Europe allegedly motivated by Islamic terrorism. One woman is dead and 29 are injured after Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen with Lebanese roots, drove into a crowd of people Saturday night at Berlin’s Pride event. Ballout, who had a criminal record, was shot and killed by police in a confrontation the next day.

Prosecutors say he had previously attempted to join the Islamic terror group ISIS.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz questioned how the suspect was able to conduct such an attack while supposedly being under constant surveillance.

“I ⁠cannot ⁠understand ‌how I can track my mobile phone from anywhere in the ⁠world — or even use it to determine ‌the location of my iPad, for instance — yet it is supposedly ​impossible, or technically unfeasible, ⁠for security authorities in ⁠Germany to determine the ⁠whereabouts ⁠of ​individuals classified as security threats to ​that ⁠same extent,” he said at a political rally.
