Search underway for Ontario woman missing from Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo

A 28-year-old Ontario woman has disappeared while attending the Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo, B.C.

According to B.C. RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Vanessa Munn, Kayla Boisvert was last seen at 2:15 a.m. on July 27, the last day of the event.

Boisvert was reported missing on Tuesday after friends were unable to locate her. This was the second missing person report to come out of the festival this year. The other person reported missing, a 20-year-old woman, was found safe on Wednesday.

A missing person poster shared widely on social media states Boisvert works as a paramedic and is an experienced festivalgoer.

“She has not been heard from and has now missed her scheduled flight home to Ontario,” the post reads.

“According to information shared by her friend, Kayla was with her group at the Pagoda stage for the beginning of Kai Wachi’s set at approximately 12:15 a.m. on Monday, July 27. The group later moved to the Village stage for Ganja White Night at around 1 a.m.

“A friend received the last known text message from her at around 3 a.m. It remains unclear exactly when or where she became separated from her group.”

Boisvert’s social media feeds state she lives in Trenton and went to school at St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School and Algonquin College. She is a competitive powerlifter and rugby player who appears to have a close family and many friends.

Munn said Boisvert is 6-foot tall with brown eyes and black hair.

She was last seen wearing a blue head scarf, oversized graphic T-shirt and multicoloured scarves.

The Shambhala Music Festival is held each year at the privately-owned Salmo River Ranch, six kilometres east of Salmo in the West Kootenays.

The event began in 1998 and is now one of Canada’s most well-known electronic dance music festivals, attracting thousands of people.

In 2022, American man Harsha Paladugu disappeared from the highway outside the festival and has never been located.
