Jerrod Richard Rowe, 44, of no fixed address, was charged with arson-disregard for human life, arson-damage to property, mischief and theft of a motor vehicle, the OPP said in a July 29 news release.

Both remained in custody as of July 29, police said.

The news release said the charges followed the investigation of a suspicious fire on Church Street in Finch, about 65 kilometres southeast of Ottawa, just after 12:15 a.m. on July 13.

The investigation also revealed that a vehicle was reported stolen from an address on County Road 43 in North Stormont Township on July 14. The vehicle was subsequently located in Nova Scotia, where two people were arrested by the RCMP.

Officers with the Crime Unit of the OPP’s Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry detachment and its Emergency Response Team then travelled to Nova Scotia to execute arrest warrants.

The investigation remained ongoing as of July 29, police added.
