SUMMARY

  • Spider-Man: No Way Home's events take place in 2024 in the Marvel timeline, which means that Tom Holland's character is spending Christmas all alone.
  • He lost Aunt May during the battle with the alternate universe villains whom he intended to help.
  • However, he kept May's words alive and went on to cure each of the villains before sending them back to their universes.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home dropped three years ago during the Christmas season and left fans with a whole lot of emotions to deal with. At the end of the film, like all the alternate universe Peter Parkers, Holland’s Spider-Man also ends up being all alone. Fans also mourned over the death of one of their favorite characters Aunt May, played by Marisa Tomei.

According to the in-universe timeline, Peter would be celebrating his first Christmas without Aunt May in 2024. Fans were already heartbroken for Peter’s lonely life during the climax of the film, where he moves into an empty apartment. The final scene indicates that he would continue his vigilantism, deciding to do it without risking any more lives like Aunt May.

Peter Parker’s first Christmas without Aunt May is depressing

Tom Holland‘s arc in Spider-Man: No Way Home isn’t for fans who want the superhero happy on Christmas. This year, particularly in the MCU timeline, is a sad one for Peter Parker, who lost Aunt May. Peter was grappling with guilt in the film, as it was he who brought death to Aunt May’s doorstep.

Although the other Peters from alternate universes, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, tried to help him through the guilt, Holland’s Peter might not be able to let go of that guilt. It will haunt him for a long time, probably during the 2024 Christmas in the timeline as well.

Spider-Man fans would be sad to learn that their favorite superhero in the MCU didn’t have a celebration this year. And he doesn’t even have the support of his girlfriend or his best friend — Zendaya and Jacob Batalon’s characters. Christmas is the time for family and friends and Spider-Man spending a Christmas without either is depressing.

For fans, it is in the past, as the film was released nearly three years ago on December 17, 2021. Spider-Man: No Way Home was one of the biggest releases of the year and fans were left heartbroken when they left theaters, seeing Holland’s Peter all alone at the end.

However, most of the other fans were busy celebrating the return of Maguire and Garfield’s characters. Fans also hoped that good times would fall upon Holland’s character, though that seems like a long shot now given the potential events awaiting Marvel Multiverse.

What happened to Aunt May in Spider-Man: No Way Home?

It is sad to learn that Tom Holland’s Peter had to spend Christmas all alone because he wanted to do right by a group of villains. Holland defied Doctor Strange’s orders and freed them from their captivity. He brought them to Aunt May at Happy Hogan’s apartment to cure them. May believed in helping people, no matter who they were.

However, things went horribly wrong when the Green Goblin persona took over Norman Osborn, who unleashed chaos. Amidst the chaos, Aunt May got hurt when a pumpkin bomb exploded in their apartment. She managed to stand up and be brave for Peter. However, she soon gave in to her injuries.

In the MCU universe, it is Aunt May’s dying words that form the iconic Spider-Man line, “With great power, there must also come great responsibility.” Fans believe that it is May’s words that prompted Holland to forget his vengeance and help the villains. It is also those words that pushed him to continue his vigilantism in New York City.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available for streaming on Apple TV.
