Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might isn’t exactly the strongest Dragon Ball movie within this franchise, but it still managed to bring some heat to the table. So despite having so many flaws, this film did give us one of the most iconic and coldest villains within the Dragon Ball universe, and it’s none other than Turles!

This low-key character has surprisingly captured many of our hearts as it has a strikingly interesting backstory, a clear resemblance to Goku, and some slick fighting skills. So, although Tree of Might may not be everyone’s favorite Dragon Ball movie, there is no doubt that Turles managed to leave an indelible mark on the viewers through his limited screen time.

Turles literally had Gohan spinning!

One of the most unforgettable moments from Tree of Might is when Turles took Gohan for a wild spin, literally! He was effortlessly twirling a young Gohan around his hands like a rag doll, in a rather comical scene, while also maintaining his massive aura.

This rather comical scene also shows a darker side of Turles’ personality. It shows how cold and ruthless his nature actually is. The fact that how casually and mercilessly he can toss Gohan around like a plaything may give chills to some.

It is humorous and at the same time also haunting, which together makes for a more complex and compelling villain that is Turles. In fact, this top-spinning image of Gohan has become such a popular meme in the anime community, that it also tells about the powerful presence that Turles carried within the series.

What makes Turles so OP?

Turles and Goku are like two sides of the same coin, both are Saiyan warriors from the lower class who eventually achieved unmatched strength. However, their paths to achieving that power are what makes them so different. On one hand, Goku earned his strength through relentless hard work and determination, while Turles took a shortcut!

Turles used the powers (fruits) of Tree of Might to boost his own strength to insane levels, reaching a whopping 300,000 power level, which is way beyond what an average Saiyan can handle. While an average Saiyan needs to rely on the Great Ape form to pack a punch, Turles didn’t need to do such. His power was literally on a whole different level.

For many, Turles is one of the best movie villains in Dragon Ball Z, and that’s fairly justifiable. He’s quite the embodiment of the worst parts of the Saiyan race, which truly makes him a terrifying entity. It’s a shame he didn’t get more screen time to showcase his awesomeness, but the expanded universe somewhat helps to fill in the gaps.

Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
