Just when you thought you’d finally get to see what happens next in The Rings of Power, along comes a curveball that could push Season 3 even further down the road. While fans have been anxiously waiting for the epic continuation of Middle-earth, it seems there’s yet another hurdle causing delays—and it’s more frustrating than a Balrog blocking the way!
If waiting for Season 2 was tough, Season 3 might’ve fans feeling like they’re stuck in an endless hobbit journey. Whether it’s production slowdowns, studio logistics, or BTS shuffles, the reasons are adding up, and patience is running thin. Here’s why you might need to keep your lembas bread stash ready for a long haul.
Why the Wait for The Rings of Power Season 3 Could Be Even Longer Than Season 2
Like its predecessor, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 ended with a bang, leaving fans buzzing with seismic shifts in Middle-earth. But, unlike the first two seasons, Season 3 didn’t start off as strong. The show hasn’t been renewed yet, which raises eyebrows. While Season 2 had been in production even before Season 1 premiered, the writing for Season 3’s barely begun.
Prime Video kept things under wraps, so fans were left guessing. Season 1 cost Amazon a staggering billion dollars, and they had a five-season plan in mind. You’d think that meant a quick green light for Season 3, but we’ve seen nothing official. As showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay put it back in August:
Yet, it’s clear that they’re at a much earlier stage than they were with Season 2 at this time in 2022. The gap between the first and second seasons was two years, and if Season 3 gets the go-ahead, it could take even longer. With the complexities of the plot, including Isildur’s return to Númenor and the dark machinations of Sauron, fans will need to exercise a little patience.
While we wait for updates, the vast world of Lord of the Rings still offers plenty of content. The animated The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’s set to hit theaters this December, followed by The Hunt for Gollum in 2026. So, while the journey to Season 3 may be lengthy, Middle-earth’s never too far from reach!
Behind the Scenes of Adar’s Shocking Death in The Rings of Power Season 2 Finale
In a fresh scoop, Charlotte Brandstrnm, the director of The Rings of Power Season 2 finale, spilled the tea on Adar’s shocking death. This villain took a brutal exit at the hands of his own Orc kids, who turned on him after falling for Sauron’s sneaky lies. Before meeting his end, Adar even returned Galadriel’s ring, Nenya, hinting at a possible change of heart.
Brändström teamed up with director of photography Alex Disenhof to bring back some magic from Season 1 for this epic showdown. They recreated the intense confrontation between Adar and Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) with a twist. “It was the final moment between them,” Brandstrom said, reminiscing about the emotional weight of the scene.
Switching it up, this season’s Adar was played by Sam Hazeldine, taking over from Joseph Mawle. Hazeldine felt right at home, calling it a real privilege to dive into such a rich character.
