The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past DLC: Everything We Know — Release Date and What to Expect

The Witcher 3 isn’t done with Geralt just yet. CD Projekt Red has officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past. It’s a brand-new, full-sized expansion that brings the White Wolf back for another adventure more than a decade after the original game was released.

The DLC is positioned as a bridge between Wild Hunt and the next mainline Witcher game. It will let players revisit Geralt before the series shifts focus to Ciri in The Witcher 4.

Songs of the Past is currently slated for sometime in 2027. Keep in mind that no exact day or month has been announced yet. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the expansion is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. No mention of PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch has been made at this time.

The expansion was officially revealed as part of The Witcher 3’s anniversary celebrations. However, the rumors regarding the expansion had been swirling for a while now. This new expansion will drop roughly 11 years after Blood and Wine launched in 2016.

CDPR says more concrete information, including a proper release window and gameplay details, will arrive later in 2026. This information tidbit will also be dropped with new system requirements in “late summer” 2026.

What to Expect in The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past DLC

Songs of the Past is confirmed to be a story-driven expansion starring Geralt of Rivia. So, the rumors of players getting to step into the shoes of any other side character have thankfully been thwarted. CDPR and Fool’s Theory describe it as a major chunk of new content.

The expansion is set to be loaded with fresh locations, new characters, and multiple hours of quests. It is designed to sit alongside Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine as a third, substantial add-on, in classic CDPR style.

Story details are being kept vague for now. However, the title and early comments hint at a strong focus on Geralt’s past and the wider Witcher lore. CDPR has teased that the expansion will be tied to the Night of Belleteyn (via IGN).

It is an important event in the Witcher canon, and it will feature new monsters, at least one new Witcher sword. CDPR hasn’t forgotten about the degenerate Gwent addicts as well, as refreshed Gwent content with new cards is also on the docket.

According to several industry insiders in the lead-up to the official announcement, the new DLC will be a handing of the baton. The Songs of the Past is set to be connective tissue that sets the stage tonally and narratively for the upcoming Witcher 4, which shifts the spotlight to Ciri.
