The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting another shot at stealing hundreds of hours from your life, and this time, you won’t have to buy the game again. CD Projekt Red surprised fans at Gamescom 2026 with a remastered edition of its acclaimed RPG, bringing a fresh batch of upgrades to Geralt’s adventures across the Continent.
The free update arrives on September 29, giving returning players and newcomers plenty to look forward to. Here’s when it goes live in your region, along with a countdown and everything you need to know before jumping back in.
When Does The Witcher 3 Remastered Release in Your Region?

The free upgrade (for anyone who owns the base game) will go live simultaneously across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (via GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net).
The Continent is trembling, preparing for another cavalcade of the dreaded Wild Hunt.

The update also includes both existing expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, at no extra cost for base-game owners. But there’s much more to this release than getting two free DLCs alongside a graphics upgrade.

The remaster goes above and beyond the December 2022 next-gen update, with CD Projekt Red reworking several parts of the experience. Here’s what you can expect when the update arrives on September 29:
- Visual and performance upgrades: Improved environment, NPC, and monster textures, enhanced foliage, reworked lighting, rendering, and ray tracing. PC also gets support for newer upscaling technologies, including DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, and XeSS 2.0.
- Combat and progression: New finishing animations, improved monster behavior, refreshed Sign effects, and an overhauled skill tree give Geralt more ways to handle encounters. Roach’s movement, looting, and meditation are also being improved.
- Quality-of-life features: An adaptive camera, improved UI and quest tracking, accessibility options, photo mode enhancements, and armor transmogrification round out the changes. That last addition means you can keep your favorite armor’s appearance without sacrificing better equipment stats.
- Cross-platform mod support: CD Projekt Red has partnered with mod.io to bring supported mods to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Console players can browse and install compatible creations through the in-game menu after linking their accounts.
The remaster also brings a familiar name into the official game. Halk Hogan, creator of the highly popular “HD Reworked Project” mod, has confirmed their collaboration with CD Projekt Red on the upcoming remaster, with their work being integrated directly into the release. After years of improving Geralt’s world through mods, their visual upgrades will finally, officially, be part of the game itself.
For Switch 2 owners, the remaster arrives as a native version on September 29, with a free upgrade for those who own the original Switch game. Meanwhile, Songs of the Past, the separately announced third expansion for The Witcher 3, remains scheduled for 2027.
