The Mandalorian & Grogu has released its final trailer, with the film being a month away from release. While the previous look at the film had left fans disappointed, there seems to be genuine excitement in the Star Wars community after the latest trailer hit the internet. With visuals that feel like they are a part of classic Star Wars, The Mandalorian & Grogu is going to offer fans a peek into what it was like for the New Republic to run the galaxy between the fall of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the First Order.
The final trailer gave the audience a look at the multitude of villains, from the Hutts to the Imperial remnants, to mercenary droids, that Din Djarin and Grogu are going to encounter in their adventures across the galaxy. With stars like Sigourney Weaver and Pedro Pascal headlining the project, there is a lot in store for fans, who are going to see the legacy of some of the most recognizable characters from the original trilogy.
When Can Fans Expect The Mandalorian & Grogu to Hit Theatres?
As reiterated by the final trailer, The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theatres on May 22, 2026. The film is expected to be released in IMAX. The film would mark one of the first Disney+ Original shows set in the Star Wars Universe to transition into film. Mandalorian and Grogu have remained popular characters among fans, and have been chasing imperial remnants since Season 1 of The Mandalorian.
While the story shifted to the restoration of Mandalore in the later episodes as Moff Gideon received the Darksaber, which was instrumental to the leadership of the Mandalorians, Din Djarin was able to aid Bo-Katan Kryze in restoring Mandalore to its former glory, which was followed by Grogu’s initiation into Din Djarin’s clan.
Who All Can Fans Expect to See in The Mandalorian & Grogu?
The trailer revealed a slew of characters, voices, and faces that fans can expect to see in the show. Some will be appearing for the first time in the franchise’s history as new characters, while others will be playing returning characters.
As revealed by trailers before, Rotta the Hutt, the son of the infamous Jabba the Hutt, will be making an appearance in the film. Rotta the Hutt has previously appeared in shows like The Clone Wars. Known as Rotta the Huttlet, the character will be appearing as an adult in the film, voiced by The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White. Unlike his father and his cousins, Rotta the Hutt is considerably more jacked in his appearance.
Other members of the cast that have been revealed are Sigourney Weaver, who will be essaying the role of a new character called Ward. Ward is a member of the Republic’s Rangers, and was part of the Rebel Alliance when it was fighting the Empire.
Jonny Coyne will also be in the film as Janu, who is the leader of one of the remaining imperial troops. Dave Filoni will be appearing as an X-Wing pilot, Trapper Wolf. Steve Blum is also a part of the cast, providing the voice of Zeb, the Ghost crew member from Star Wars Rebels. The role of Din Djarin, of course, will be essayed by Pedro Pascal.
How Do Din Djarin and Grogu Become Involved With Imperial Remnants?
The Mandalorian || Credit: Lucasfilm At the end of Season 3 of The Mandalorian, after Moff Gideon was slain and the Mandalore was restored with the Kryze Clan at its head, Din Djarin was tasked with taking his apprentice, Din Grogu, on the travels that are tradition for Mandalorians. Afterwards, he and The Child moved into a cabin on the outskirts of Nevarro’s capital. However, Din Djarin took up honest contract work instead of bounty hunting.
In The Mandalorian & Grogu, it is this honest contract work that causes him to come to blows with Imperial Warlords who are trying to bring the Empire back. However, it is now known that Emperor Palpatine is still alive, albeit hidden during this time. Grogu and Din Djarin are probably going to face a lot of enemies, as was seen by the various antagonists that were seen in the trailer. There was a droid with a wide-brimmed hat, the Hutts (both Jabba’s son and his twin cousins), and a host of snowtroopers guarding what seems like a shady meeting of Imperial warlords.
What Else Did The Final Trailer Reveal?
Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin || Credit: LucasfilmApart from the various characters that the final trailer revealed, there was some interesting imagery. For example, the trailer opens with Grogu meditating on a forest planet, which could very well be the same planet that Luke trained Grogu on during the events of The Mandalorian. This was also famously where fans saw Luke and Ahsoka interact for the first time on screen.
The Imperial gathering takes place on an ice planet, with snowtroopers aplenty in attendance. Visuals suggest that the final act of the film may take place here, as multiple shots show the Din Clan arriving on the planet, and engaging with AT-ATs on a snow planet covered mountain.
Further, there are shots of a well-lit city, one where Rotta’s gladiatorial matches are being broadcast, indicating that the location is going to be important to the story. Rotta is also going to be a Hutt who speaks Galactic Basic as opposed to Huttese. His character has been compared to Adonis Creed from the Creed films, given that both characters struggle to escape their father’s looming shadow.
The trailer also revealed that Din Djarin has a new ship, which is more reminiscent of the Razor Crest, which was destroyed in Season 2 after Grogu was abducted by Moff Gideon.
