The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Officially Releases on November 5, 2026

Nintendo has finally revealed the release date for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. The Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct just ended, and the company gave us an extended look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 title and confirmed that it will launch on November 5, 2026.

From what we’ve seen, the remake is a great and faithful recreation of the Nintendo 64 classic. We have new and modern visuals, gameplay updates, and several quality-of-life features. It will also arrive just two weeks before Grand Theft Auto 6, which is currently scheduled for November 19.

Ocarina of Time Remake Release Date and Platform

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will officially launch on November 5, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The release date was revealed alongside a big gameplay presentation, giving us a much clearer idea of what Nintendo has planned for the remake.

The biggest thing of note is that Nintendo hasn’t turned Ocarina of Time into an open-world game and has preserved the structure of the original. Hyrule Field is shown to be an expansive area to explore, while towns, dungeons, and other locations retain their more focused designs and loading transitions.

The remake does, however, feature a big visual upgrade. We get to see familiar locations such as Kokiri Forest, the Great Deku Tree, Hyrule Field, and Castle Town, and they have been rebuilt with considerably greater detail. Castle Town in particular has been expanded, with additional activities and side content for players to discover.

Nintendo has placed the remake on November 5, only 14 days before GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What’s New in the Ocarina of Time Remake?

Ocarina of Time is getting a big modern jump, but the remake doesn’t change what made the original game special. Funnily enough, a big new addition is a dedicated jump button, giving us direct control over an action that previously happened automatically near ledges.

Camera controls have also been updated, allowing us to freely rotate Link’s point of view. Combat and general movement are designed to feel more responsive, while gyro aiming has been added for the slingshot.

The remake also introduces Threads of Time, a new journal-like system that records the player’s progress and helps indicate where they should go next. This should be particularly useful for anyone returning to the game after a long break.

Another major convenience is the ability to dash by holding the A button after rolling, which will certainly be a better alternative to spamming the roll button across Hyrule.

Nintendo also confirmed that characters have additional dialogue, while important cutscenes feature voice acting. The Nintendo Switch 2’s microphone can even be used to hum learned songs, allowing Link to play them in-game.

Despite these changes, the remake’s core structure is intact. The Ocarina of Time remake is a traditional, linear Zelda game and not an open-world version. The November 5 launch is now confirmed, and we won’t have to wait much longer to experience it ourselves.
