The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2: Price, Release Date & What’s Included

Nintendo has finally revealed the The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2, giving fans a first official look at the special hardware during its September 8 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct. The system comes with a dark design, green Joy-Con 2 controllers, and plenty of Triforce detailing.

Naturally, the first questions are how much it will cost, when it will be available, and what exactly Nintendo is putting in the box. Here’s everything we know about the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 so far.

The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date and Price

Nintendo will release the The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 on October 29, 2026, just over a month following the September 8 Direct. The same date applies to the matching Pro Controller and carrying case, giving Nintendo plenty of Zelda hardware to put on store shelves ahead of the holiday season.

The only official console price announced so far is ¥62,980 in Japan, including tax. At current exchange rates, that works out to roughly $404, £299, or €348, although these are simple currency conversions and should not be treated as Nintendo’s regional prices. The Japanese version is also specifically a Japanese-language, Japan-only system.

Nintendo has not yet announced the US, UK, European, or other regional MSRPs for the console. That leaves previous leaked estimates as just that – estimates – although the recent Switch 2 price increase gives us some useful context. The standard console now costs $499.99 in the US, so the final Zelda edition price outside Japan is all but confirmed to look quite different from a straight conversion of ¥62,980.

What’s Included With the New Zelda Nintendo Switch 2?

The special edition uses the same Switch 2 hardware underneath as always, but Nintendo has given almost every visible part a Zelda-themed makeover. The black console features gold Triforce motifs on the rear, while the green Joy-Con 2 controllers also carry special designs. The dock gets a matching black-and-gold look with the Triforce prominently displayed.

Inside the box, Nintendo is including:

• Nintendo Switch 2 console, with special 40th Anniversary design
• Special-design Joy-Con 2 controllers
• Special-design Joy-Con 2 Wrist Straps
• Special-design Nintendo Switch 2 Dock
• Joy-Con 2 Grip
• Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter
• USB-C charging cable
• Ultra High-Speed HDMI Cable

There is one important catch: the console does not include a game. That means The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which launches exclusively on Switch 2 on November 5 and was showcased running on the special edition console, will need to be purchased separately.

Nintendo is also releasing a matching The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Pro Controller and Carrying Case & Screen Protector on October 29. In Japan, the Pro Controller with its display stand costs ¥12,980, while the carrying case and screen protector cost ¥3,980. Both are sold separately from the console.

There is also a special Pro Controller + Display Stand edition, giving collectors another way to complete the set. Nintendo has not said that the themed Joy-Con 2 or dock will be sold separately, so the full console remains the main way to get those particular designs.
