  • Sony’s Future Immersive Entertainment Concept, revealed at CES 2025, combines advanced visuals, haptics, and scents to redefine gaming immersion.
  • The innovation allows players to interact with real-world items, aligning sensory experiences with in-game action for emotional engagement.
  • 2025 is a big year for The Last of Us fans, with HBO’s second season and The Last of Us Part II Remastered launching alongside this concept.

The gaming industry has come a long way from arcade games like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Donkey Kong to almost realistic VR games like Metal Hellsinger, Lone Echo, and Half-Life: Alyx.

In a world where gaming continues to blur the lines between reality and virtual experiences, Sony is taking the concept of immersion to an entirely new level.

Sony’s groundbreaking Future Immersive Entertainment Concept aims to engage all your senses, redefining how we experience video games. With the company’s feature reveal at CES 2025, the future of gaming is more sensory-rich and interactive than ever. Here’s how Sony’s latest innovation could revolutionize the gaming industry.

Sony’s concept revolves around multi-sensory gaming combining the latest technologies in the gaming industry to provide an experience so real, it feels indistinguishable from reality. It makes use of Sony’s Crystal LED panels, engaging audio, haptics, scent, and atmospherics surrounding you from every direction.

This set up along with interactive blockbuster games like The Last of Us Part II Remastered is a recipe for unforgettable gaming experiences. Sony revealed this concept at CES 2025 and the fans went wild.

The reveal also showed the possibility of wielding real-world items such as torches or weapons that will interact with what’s on-screen. Imagine whipping out a flamethrower to roast a bloater and smell it burning to a crisp. Ah! Another one bites the dust.

Although we don’t want to particularly smell clickers dying or bloaters burning, emotional engagement in games could revolutionize the experience when players’ senses align with the arc playing out in the game.

The smell of fresh air in a field could evoke a calming feeling, while the smell of smoke during a final boss battle could give an adrenaline boost. Games are a profound means of escapism and this proof-of-concept brings us closer to that more than ever.
