The Batman Part 2 First Teaser Disappoints After Major Reveal

Matt Reeves finally gave fans something to look at for his much-awaited The Batman sequel. But then he (or WB) also took something away, leaving fans disappointed. Reeves revealed camera test footage from The Batman Part 2 on Vimeo, which gave us a glimpse into Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight.

The actor is back in the full Batsuit, snow falling around him in Gotham, before he turns and fixes a hard stare into the lens. It runs barely half a minute, but it is the first real footage from the movie. The bad news was tucked into the same video.

The movie has been pushed back again. It was set to open on October 1, 2027. It now arrives on February 18, 2028, almost five months later than its announced release date, and in IMAX. That might be the fourth release date this sequel has had, with initial dates suggesting a 2025 and a 2026 release.

It also means nearly six years will pass between the first film, which opened on March 4, 2022, and this one. The wait is just too long, with only HBO’s The Penguin to tide the fans over. For some fans, thirty seconds of test footage after a wait that long also felt very thin.

Why The Batman Part II Release Date Is Delayed Again?

The bigger cause for the release date change at Warner Bros. is a chain reaction. According to Deadline, J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi film The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, was pushed back due to schedule turbulence resulting from the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger. It moved from November 2026 to October 1, 2027, which is The Batman sequel’s original release date. Two other Warner titles shuffled around it as well.

According to Warner Bros., this change will allow Matt Reeves more time to finish post-production (via THR). The new slot hands the film a four-day holiday weekend in the US right before President’s Day. WB is also putting the sequel in roughly the same window as the first film, which opened in March 2022 and pulled in $134 million domestically on its way to over $770 million worldwide.

While there is no evidence for this theory, some speculate that James Gunn’s DCU releases like Man of Tomorrow and The Brave and the Bold might be causing these changes. However, DCU’s Batman movie still has nothing in the works.

What We Know So Far About Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Part 2?

There is only scarce detail available about the movie, and most of them aren’t official yet. Matt Reeves is directing and co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin. Filming began in June 2026. Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne alongside Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb.

The new faces are the ones fans are looking forward to. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch are joining the cast of the movie. Warner Bros. has not said who most of them are playing. Fans have linked them to Harvey Dent, Victor Zsasz, Poison Ivy, and the Court of Owls, but all of that is guesswork.

The film picks up soon after The Penguin, and it is set in winter, which the snowy teaser confirms. Erik Messerschmidt has replaced Greig Fraser as cinematographer. The movie stays under DC’s Elseworlds banner, separate from Gunn’s DCU.
