Few Dark Pals are as intimidating or as rewarding to own as Shadowbeak. Between its impressive combat potential, exclusive abilities, and role in one of Palworld‘s late-game boss encounters, it’s easy to see why so many players eventually set their sights on catching one.
Keep reading for everything you need to know about this Pal, including where to find it, what it drops, the best breeding combinations for it in Palworld 1.0, and much more.
Shadowbeak Overview & Drops in Palworld 1.0
Image Credit: Pocketpair/FandomWireShadowbeak is one of the strongest Dark Pals you can add to your team in Palworld 1.0, but its unsettling appearance isn’t just for show. Even its official Palpedia entry makes it clear that this is no ordinary creature:
Born from the depths of insanity, its very existence defies reason. Having lost all genetic ties to other Pals, one wonders if it could still even be considered a Pal.
That eerie backstory is matched by an equally impressive kit. Shadowbeak doubles as a fast flying mount while boosting Dark-element attacks through its Partner Skill, and it learns some of the strongest Dark Active Skills in the game, including the exclusive Divine Disaster II. Whether you’re exploring the map or taking on late-game fights, it’s a Pal that continues to pull its weight long after you catch it.
Shadowbeak Drops
Catching or defeating a Shadowbeak rewards you with several valuable endgame materials. Whether you’re crafting advanced gear, upgrading your base, or investing in stronger Pals, most of these drops remain useful well into the endgame:
- Pal Metal Ingot
- Plasteel
- Carbon Fiber
- Large Pal Soul
- Innovative Technical Manual
Shadowbeak Location in Palworld 1.0
Image Credit: PocketpairUnlike many late-game Pals, Shadowbeak has just one reliable wild spawn. You can find it roaming the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary in the far northeast corner of the map (coordinates: 650, 620). It shares the sanctuary with several other high-level Pals, so don’t expect a leisurely sightseeing trip.
We recommend reaching at least Level 45 before making the journey and bringing a healthy supply of high-tier Palspheres. Shadowbeak itself generally appears around Level 50 and above, meaning an underleveled team can quickly find itself overwhelmed if things go sideways.
The quickest way to reach the sanctuary is by mounting a flying or swimming Pal from the “Deep Sand Dunes” Fast Travel point in the Desiccated Dunes region (coordinates: 528, 526). Once you arrive, keep your eyes open while circling the island, as this rare Pal doesn’t always spawn immediately, and you may need to patrol or even exit and re-enter the area before spotting one.
Finally, since Shadowbeak is a Dark-type Pal, Dragon-element Active Skills deal increased damage to it, so make sure to bring along your best Pal for the job. If you want a refresher on every elemental matchup, be sure to check out our complete Palworld Elements Guide.
How to Breed Shadowbeak in Palworld 1.0
Image Credit: Pocketpair/YouTubeIf you remember breeding Tower Bosses before Palworld‘s full release, you’ll notice things work very differently now. As of Version 1.0, Tower Bosses can no longer be obtained through breeding combinations involving other Pals.
In other words, the only way to hatch another Shadowbeak from a Breeding Farm is by pairing a male and female Shadowbeak together. So, your best bet is still catching your first one at the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary or getting exceptionally lucky with a naturally spawned Dark Huge Egg. That said, having a Shadowbeak still opens the door to breeding several other powerful Pals.

Shadowbeak Skills, Stats, and Pal Gear in Palworld 1.0
Image Credit: PocketpairA large part of Shadowbeak’s appeal comes from its excellent Partner Skill. Besides serving as a flying mount, it also boosts Dark-element damage while mounted, making it a strong choice if your build already leans into Dark Active Skills and you like commanding your Pal while riding it yourself.
Partner Skill: Modified DNA
Can be ridden as a flying mount. While flying, Movement Speed is increased. Enhances Dark attacks by 15% while mounted.
You can further improve this bonus through the Pal Essence Condenser:
| Level 1 | Increases Dark damage dealt by both you and Shadowbeak by 50% while mounted. |
| Level 2 | Increases Dark damage dealt by both you and Shadowbeak by 55% while mounted. |
| Level 3 | Increases Dark damage dealt by both you and Shadowbeak by 65% while mounted. |
| Level 4 | Increases Dark damage dealt by both you and Shadowbeak by 80% while mounted. |
| Level 5 | Increases Dark damage dealt by both you and Shadowbeak by 100% while mounted. |
Active Skills
Shadowbeak naturally learns the following Active Skills as it levels up:
| Level | Skill (Element) | Cooldown | Description |
| 1 | Air Cannon (Neutral) | 2s | Quickly fires a burst of highly pressurized air. |
| 7 | Dark Ball (Dark) | 2s | Unleashes a sphere of darkness that slowly tracks down an enemy. |

| 70 | Dark Whisp (Dark) | 30s | Fires a menacing ball of dark energy that tracks its target. |
Best Passive Skills
Like most combat-focused Pals, the best passive skills for Shadowbeak depend on what you want it to do. If you’re using it primarily as your flying mount, prioritize movement speed and stamina. If it’s spending more time in battle than in the air, a damage-focused build will get much more value out of its already impressive Dark-element attacks.
Best Mount Passives – If exploration is your priority, focus on movement speed and stamina. These passives let Shadowbeak stay airborne for longer while covering much more ground between Fast Travel points:
| Runner | Movement Speed +20% |
| Swift | Movement Speed +30% |
| Legend | Attack +20%, Defense +20%, Movement Speed +20% |
| Infinite Stamina | Max Stamina +50% |
Best Offensive Passives – For combat, Shadowbeak already starts with an excellent Dark moveset, so boosting its damage and reducing cooldowns will usually give you the biggest return. These take full advantage of hard-hitting skills like Divine Disaster II and Dark Laser while keeping them available more often:
| Siren of the Void | 30.0% increase in Dark attack damage, 30.0% increase in Ice attack damage |
| Demon God | Attack +30.0%, Defense +5.0% |
| Musclehead | Attack +30%, Work Speed −50% |
| Legend | Attack +20%, Defense +20%, Movement Speed +20% |
| Lord of the Underworld | Dark Attack Damage +30% |
| Serenity | Active Skill Cooldown −30%, Attack +10% |
Shadowbeak Saddle: Materials and Unlock Requirements
Finally, if you want to ride the Pal yourself, you’ll need to unlock the Shadowbeak Saddle from the Technology menu at Level 47 for 4 Technology Points before crafting it at a Pal Gear Workbench. The recipe requires:
- Leather ×50
- Venom Gland ×25
- Paldium Fragment ×45
- Refined Ingot ×40
- Corrosive Solvent ×15
With its excellent mobility, powerful Dark-element moveset, and useful breeding potential, Shadowbeak easily earns a place among the strongest late-game Pals in Palworld.
