The Batman 2: Matt Reeves Officially Reveals Robert Pattinson’s New Look on Batman Day

The annual Bat day is here, and we have a new sneak peek of The Batman 2. Matt Reeves, who is helming the sequel, has shared a new look from the film ahead of its 2028 release. This year’s September 19, which is celebrated as Batman Day, is significant, as the Robert Pattinson sequel is currently being filmed.

Taking to X, Reeves shared a single photo showing a silhouette of the Dark Knight. The moody, cinematic shot does not reveal much. However, it sure adds to the existing excitement to see Pattinson’s Batman back on screen. “Happy Batman Day to everyone from London,” Reeves wrote in the caption of the photo. Reeves is not the only DC director who celebrated Batman Day. Zack Snyder, who directed Batman v Superman and Justice League, shared a photo of Ben Affleck’s Batman, marking the day. James Gunn posted a Sam Kieth artwork from the Batman: Ghosts comic. Gunn is currently filming a Superman sequel with David Corenswet.

Robert Pattinson’s Batman Returns With Updated Suit in Matt Reeves’ Sequel

The Batman 2 will feature a more updated Batsuit for Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight. In July 2026, when Matt Reeves first shared the camera test, it confirmed that the suit is not identical to its 2022 version. A fan also pointed out that the cowl now has longer ears. Reeves himself reposted the observation and confirmed, “You are not crazy.” Screenrant noted that there is some extra protection to the Batsuit, which is a chin guard that was spotted in the test footage. The outlet also claimed that the collars looked higher from the angles available for the suit.

French publication Première examined some production photos, identifying a slight modification of the armor plates around the abdomen and torso. However, most of these remain speculations, except the ears of Batman’s cowl, which Reeves himself confirmed.

The Batman 2 Picks Up After Gotham Flood

Most of the plot for The Batman 2 is being kept under wraps. The available loglines (via Rotten Tomatoes) reveal that the sequel is set against the backdrop of the winter after the Gotham flood that engulfed the city at the end of the first film. Matt Reeves has revealed that the sequel will go beyond the aftermath of the disaster.

He pointed out (via Variety) that while the first film starring Pattinson is mostly focused on Batman, the sequel will explore more of the man behind the mask, Bruce Wayne. He noted that he “never wanted to lose” Pattinson “at the center of” the origin stories. “That is really what we set our aim on,” Reeves added.

The core trio of Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis will be returning in the sequel, along with Colin Farrell, Jayme Lawson, and Gil Perez-Abraham. The new casting roster includes Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, and Sebastian Koch.
