In the series, the villain has taken on several forms with multiple actors playing the role. While actor Mark Pellegrino is the face most associated with the character, Misha Collins also had a memorable stint in the role. As a result, fans of the show admit the series has one of the best portrayals of Lucifer in the television media, and here is what they had to say.

Supernatural fans proclaim the series had the perfect actors to play Lucifer

Created by Eric Kripke, Supernatural ran for fifteen seasons, pitting the Winchester brothers against various monsters, including Biblical beings. The brothers came up against their toughest opponent of the Kripke era in the form of Lucifer, initially played by Mark Pellegrino.

On Reddit, the show’s fans discussed the portrayal of Lucifer in the series. Following Pellegrino’s stint as the character, fan-favorite actor Misha Collins also played the role serving as a vessel for the Devil incarnate. Here is what fans had to say about the portrayals of Lucifer in the series.

As the comments suggest, most agree that Pellegrino and Collins were too good in the role of Lucifer, making a strong case for Supernatural having one of the best depictions of the Biblical villain.

However, some fans also felt that actor Jared Padalecki who played Sam Winchester, in the series was also very menacing as the villain. Padalecki played the role when Lucifer briefly took over his body in season 5. Moreover, others argued that Collins’ portrayal of the character was too hammy and felt like an imitation of Pellegrino’s performance.

Supernatural star Mark Pellegrino praised Misha Collins’ portrayal of Lucifer

Although Collins’ turn as Lucifer received somewhat mixed reactions from the show’s fans, his performance as Castiel likely also affected fan perception. A common criticism of Collins’ performance was that it was too similar to Pellegrino’s take.

During an interview, Pellegrino discussed Collins’ take on Lucifer and the similarities between the two portrayals of the villain. Pellegrino explained that he and Collins discussed the character in great detail before the latter took over in season 12. He said:

Since I had that relationship with Misha and was able to see it play out over a longer period of time than any of the other Lucifers, I really sort of have an affinity for Misha.

Pellegrino revealed that he found that Collins did his own thing with the character.

Furthermore, Pellegrino admitted that he liked Collins’ characterization of Lucifer and the campiness was intentional on the actor’s part. In contrast to fan perception, Pellegrino stated that he stole some qualities from Collins’ performance as the villain which he added to his own take.

Supernatural is streaming on Netflix.
