Destin Daniel Cretton‘s first collaboration with Tom Holland proved fruitful in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which was Cretton’s return to Marvel after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021. With acknowledged plans for Spider-Man 5, he could reportedly return to reunite with the actor. Marvel and Sony have yet to confirm whether Cretton would actually direct the fifth instalment of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. But Amy Pascal, who is one of the producers of the films, has hinted at a possibility.
Under Cretton’s direction, Spider-Man: Brand New Day solidified its record-breaking success. According to Box Office Mojo‘s recent update, the film has surpassed $2.4 billion worldwide. It is also the second film in history to gross over $900 million domestically.

The outlet identified it as one of his major upcoming projects, noting, “Cretton has a lot of irons in the fire, including the inevitable next Spidey installment and a Naruto film.”
The Shang-Chi director could actually be interested in directing the next Spider-Man film. In a previous interview with Deadline, he was asked whether he would consider returning for the next movie. Cretton simply said, “Sure,” before joking with the interviewer, “Are you offering me a job, Destiny?”
In the same interview, he mentioned that the conversation about Spider-Man: Brand New Day will spin new ideas for future movies. “Knowing there will be another movie, that conversation will continue in the writer’s room as we figure out —if we figure out —what we’re going to do next,” Cretton explained.
Amy Pascal, a key Spider-Man producer, also hinted at a possibility. She was asked by Deadline whether Cretton is involved in the next movie. She simply noted,
If we have our way, he certainly will be.
So, there are great hopes about Cretton’s return to the Spider-Man franchise. He has several other prominent works in the pipeline otherwise. As per Deadline‘s latest reporting, Paramount’s Hawaii Five-O movie is being helmed by him. He is involved in developing and directing the project, with Christ Bremner and Noah Oppenheim in writing. Cretton is also confirmed to direct Lionsgate’s live-action Naruto movie, which is planning production in early 2027.
