Shrek 5 Trailer: Shrek And Donkey Are Back Again For Another Story

DreamWorks Animation has unveiled the first full trailer for Shrek 5, offering a first glimpse of the film, which will be released in cinemas on June 30, 2027. The trailer features Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz reprising their beloved roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, respectively. It marks the first time the three actors have appeared together on screen since Shrek Forever After in 2010.

In addition to the returning cast, the film also welcomes Zendaya, Marcello Hernandez, and Skyler Gisondo, who play the roles of the three children. The animation is directed by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, while production is overseen jointly by DreamWorks Animation and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

DreamWorks Animation surprises viewers from the very first frame of the trailer, which features a couple of hand-drawn images that pay homage to William Steig’s original 1990 picture book, the story that started it all. In the film, Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey find themselves in a rough new urban area called “Further, Further Away,” a gangster kingdom. Their first encounter with the local police goes so badly that the entire family ends up in prison.

As usual, the movie is also packed with pop culture references. For example, a melting, eerie snowman approaches Donkey and says, “Do you want to date a snowman?” — a clear reference to Disney’s Frozen.

Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz once again voice Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, respectively. Alongside the main trio, a few new faces have joined the cast: Zendaya voices Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia, while Marcello Hernandez and Skyler Gisondo voice her brothers, Fergus and Farkle.

The film is directed by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, with Brad Ableson serving as co-director, and it is produced by Gina Shay and Illumination head Chris Meledandri. The four mainline Shrek films have earned more than $2.9 billion worldwide combined, according to TheWrap, while the first film won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2002.
