Quentin Tarantino Once Decided to Give an Acting Lesson to Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt has been a prominent name in the entertainment world, and thanks to his immense charisma and talent, he has won the hearts of many.

Having begun his career in the late 1980s with television roles, he continued to climb the ladder of success throughout the 1990s and 2000s, cementing an indelible legacy in Hollywood.

Over the years, he has developed a strong command of his acting skills, which is well reflected in his projects. This also includes how he wants to strip on camera!

In an episode of Amy Schumer’s 3 Girls, 1 Keith podcast, Quentin Tarantino recalled a particular sequence from Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood which featured Pitt shirtless. The director revealed that he decided to teach the actor how he wanted him to act in that scene.

For the unversed, the sequence in the subject refers to the movie’s famous scene where Pitt took off that retro Champion T-shirt while working on Rick Dalton’s roof.

Tarantino tried to tell Pitt exactly how to rip off the t-shirt but it didn’t go well. He explained,

“I go,‘So, I’m thinking maybe you unbutton the Hawaiian shirt, and you peel that off, and then peel off the Champion T-shirt.’ He was like, ‘Really? You want me to go through all that button bullsh*t? I’ll just take it off in one bit. Go!’”

The director recalled that Pitt was shy about these things in real life, but the actor’s reaction to the particular scene showcased his professionalism. Even the director acknowledged Pitt’s improvisation and let him take the lead.

Although the director had a certain way of filming the sequence, he eventually decided to take a step back to take the command in the Bullet Train actor’s hand.

Given that he had his doubts over whether the former would be able to execute the sequence or not, it eventually was futile since Pitt gave his best.

The Pulp Fiction director shared,

I’m like, okay, this guy knows exactly what time it is. Shut the f–k up and let the master do his job! Even when you see him in the work shed and the way he puts on the leather gloves and puts the wire in his mouth all butch and macho. He just knows what time it is.

By improvising his shirtless scene, he made it quite memorable. Not only that, his overall performance in the movie earned him critical acclaim. He even won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Cliff Booth, a Hollywood stuntman with a dubious past.

The movie features an ensemble cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Pitt, and Margot Robbie. The other cast includes Margaret Qualley, Timothy Olyphant, Austin Butler, Dakota Fanning, and Al Pacino.

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is available to stream on Hulu.
