In less than a week — on Oct. 21 — Brian Kilrea will celebrate his 90th birthday.

Yep, he’ll be 90 years old.

The guy they called Killer, the longtime Ottawa 67’s coach (32 years) who won two Memorial Cups and three Ontario Hockey League titles with the 67’s, spent nearly 40 years with the organization.

The 67’s want fans to celebrate Kilrea’s birthday with him — during and after Sunday’s 2 p.m. game against Barrie. There will be plenty of celebrities on hand for the occasion.

During the game, there will be a meet and greet with Kilrea and several former players signing autographs.

After the game (at 5 p.m.), fans are invited to attend a Toast and Roast, at Lansdowne Park’s Horticulture Building, joining former players, coaches and community leaders for an evening of tributes, laughter and stories. Tickets are $200 each.

“I used to sneak into the 67’s dressing room after games when I was 10 years old and started my hockey seasons with two weeks at the Brian Kilrea 67’s hockey schools at Canterbury Arena,” Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group CEO Mark Goudie said. “He taught me to smoke cigars and drink beer … wait, that didn’t happen.

“But, to be able to be a part of a legend’s 90th birthday celebrations 45 years later, is awesome and a privilege.”

Proceeds will establish the Killer’s Legacy Fund, providing hockey equipment and covering registration fees to help ensure children who otherwise might not have the chance can experience the joys of hockey.

For tickets, go to Brian Kilrea’s 90th Birthday: Toast & Roast – OSEG Foundation.
