naruto, hokage

SUMMARY

  • Out of all the interesting and strong abilities in Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto created some that weren't used more than once and were extremely overpowered.
  • One such technique was Konan's Paper Person of God technique that she used against Tobi and nearly killed him with countless explosions.
  • The true impact of the technique can be understood when we pair up the Hokage against it, and only four out of the seven Hokage would be able to defend themselves against it.

The fights in Naruto are the perfect fix for some thrill, as the exciting back and forth between characters throughout the series account for some great moments. Masashi Kishimoto crafted complex strategies and techniques, making the fights more tactical compared to a typical showdown of astronomical power-ups.

This doesn’t mean that there weren’t any overpowered abilities at all. There were some techniques that were so devastating that Kishimoto didn’t use them more than once, like Konan’s Paper Person of God Technique. She used it against Tobi and nearly killed him. While we didn’t get another fight that made use of that technique, its menace was properly established with only a few panels.

And one thing is clear: there are only a few characters who can escape Konan’s wrath if she goes all out. Even the Hokage would struggle against her, so here’s an exploration of the true impact of this technique.

Konan’s Paper Person of God technique was too overpowered to be used again

Konan trained under Jiraiya during her childhood, but most of her abilities were the result of her dedication and talent. She used the Paper Person of God technique against Tobi. With this technique, she disguised around 600 billion explosive tags into her surroundings, a river in the case of Tobi. She created a split in that river, leaving Tobi without any support to cling or hold onto.

Once he was left with no escape, Konan directed the explosive tags to stick to his body. The colossal number of tags, once detonated, would lead to an extended duration of explosions. If it wasn’t for the Izanagi, Tobi wouldn’t have survived that attack. Even a lot of Hokage would find themselves defenseless against the technique, with only a few successfully escaping it in time.

Here’s how the Hokage would deal with Konan in a fight

All the Hokage, from Hashirama to Naruto, have been some of the strongest characters in the series. However, this technique would leave three of them exposed. These three Hokage are Sixth Hokage Kakashi Hatake, Fifth Hokage Tsunade Senju, and Third Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen. Their only escape is to sense the technique right when the battle starts and flee the battlefield. This is something only Kakashi seems capable of among the three.

As for the other four, Hashirama and Naruto have huge Chakra reserves and abilities that allow them to fend off against God-tier characters. Hashirama can defend himself with his wood release, and keep it up with his chakra, while Naruto can escape the explosion with speed. Similarly, the creator of the Flying Raijin, Tobirama Senju, and the only shinobi who managed to master it, Minato Namikaze, are faster than light.

Hence, they can defeat Konan’s explosion with time. After analyzing how most Hokage would struggle against this technique, it seems even more impressive and intriguing. It’s a shame that the only time she used this technique, it was rendered useless by the Sharingan.

Naruto is available to stream on Netflix.
